Jay Monahan has, more often than not, found himself in hot water either with the players or with the fans. He has received a lot of hate for the decisions he made and the way he carried them out following the inception of the Saudi breakaway league. Well, almost two years down the lane, not much seems to have changed, as he was at the receiving end of such a response yet again recently.

The headlines of the golf world are undoubtedly on Scottie Scheffler and his recent win at THE PLAYERS Championship. But, amidst all that, a certain video of the commissioner getting booed at the event’s award ceremony went viral on the internet, and fans couldn’t help but respond to the same in their usual trolling fashion!

A tweet was shared by NUCLR GOLF on their X handle, which showcased the PGA Tour official being called upon to the stage by the emcee. However, he was met with long shouts of dislike in the form of boos as he went ahead and stood in front of the mic, beside the champ and the rest of the dignitaries.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that the golfer has found himself in the crosshairs of the fans of the game. Back in 2023, when Jon Rahm defected to LIV Golf, many followers took to the internet and express their dissatisfaction all the while calling for the resignation of the 53-year-old.

Not much was different this time around as well as a follower went ahead to compare the official to the commissioner of the National Hockey League. Surprisingly, the fan had gone ahead to comment, “Guy is the Gary Bettman of golf,” all the while drawing a parallel between Monahan and Bettman, the latter of whom has been alleged to miss out on the NHL’s chances of growth.

If you think that’s where the comments stopped, then you’ve got it sorely wrong. The internet went ahead to respond under the tweet as they decided to troll the commissioner of the PGA Tour. As a result, the community went into a fervor.

From comparing the 53-year-old to other commissioners of other sports to accusing him of being the main cause behind the defection of athletes, there were a lot of responses under the post. Regardless, let us take a quick look at the comments.

A follower came forward with his opinion on how all the commissioners of various sports are always at the receiving end of hate. In a bid to prove the same, they bought in the example of Rogel Goodell who would be booed at the NFL draft, and the NBA official who would suffer the same fate.

Another golfing enthusiast pointed out a similar situation as well as they took to the comments section. They went ahead to sarcastically congratulate the official before mentioning how he is now similar to the other commissioners of various sports who receive hate as well.

The next person who came forward couldn’t help but talk about the treatment being given to the defectors. They pointed out how only a handful of the LIV Golf Pros are able to play with the professionals on the PGA Tour and that too four times a year, alluding to the major championships.

Meanwhile, another fan bashed the commissioner without any remorse as they accused him of failing the circuit, and the players as well. It truly is quite a heavy criticism to throw at the head of the men’s circuit.
