It seems the Jay Monahan-led circuit can’t seem to get a break! Unfortunately, the PGA Tour was hit with a setback yet again, as the final round of the ongoing event came to be suspended, courtesy of unfavorable weather conditions. Consequently, Scottie Scheffler’s victory, as a result of his formidable lead on the leaderboard, was abruptly halted.
An announcement was shared by PGA TOUR Communications through its X handle (formerly Twitter) regarding the suspension of play. However, what followed under the tweet was nothing short of pandemonium, as the community couldn’t help but come forward and take out their frustrations on the Tour management, including the commissioner.

Much to the misfortune of the professionals on the final stretch, the final round of the tournament was suspended due to darkness at 7:45 PM ET. What’s more, the play is set to resume on Monday, April 22, at 8 AM ET in South Carolina. Interestingly, this will be the second Monday finish that the Jay Monahan-led PGA Tour will witness this season after the 2024 Cognizant Classic which saw Austin Eckroat emerge victorious.

Interestingly, a total of nine golfers, including Scottie Scheffler, are yet to finish their final round at the Harbour Town Golf Links. Meanwhile, the 2024 Masters Champ was on his way to bagging his fourth victory and ninth top-10 finish on the men’s circuit for the season with a five-stroke lead from the runner-up when he was forced to stop playing.
Scottie Scheffler had finished his 15th hole and was 4-under for the day with an overall score of 20-under owing to his figures of 69-65-63 over the three days. He did so while carding a total of 18 birdies from Thursday until Saturday, thereby cementing his place at the top of the leaderboard before the Sunday round itself. However, cutting the victory run short did not sit well with many in the community.
Netizens criticize Jay Monahan-led PGA Tour for the suspension
Kevin Kisner teed off the final round of the RBC Heritage at 8:00 AM ET while the likes of Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala did so at 1:45 PM ET and Scheffler, along with Sepp Straka, did so at 1:55 PM. As a result, the group of golfers is a part of the nine who have yet to finish their final round on Sunday. Well, the fans did take this chance to call out the management, consisting of Jay Monahan, for not starting off the round early and allowing the professionals to finish their play even when the weather had forecast unfavorable conditions. Some went ahead to comment, “An embarrassing day for PGA Tour management. They could’ve easily moved up the tee times and finished before the rain. The stars were forced to play the week after a major and were looking forward to finally heading home tonight,” and “In 10 years “PGA Tour Director of Scheduling and Logistics” on a resume will be like if you were an exec for Enron.” However, the cream of the crop came when people brutally mocked the PGA Tour management; “Another royal screw up,” and “Lol absolute garbage.”

The Sunday weather was predicted to witness dark clouds in the sky, with the temperature going as low as 68F and a 20% light shower. However, when the day came, the forecast mentioned as high as an 80% chance of rain by 4 PM. Funnily enough, a follower shared a picture of the same with the sarcastic caption, “If we only knew then… what we knew then.” To top it off, others also came off with reactions in a similar tone while taking a jab at Monahan and the PGA Tour; “If only there was some way to predict the weather before it happens, like a forecast of some sort,” and “If only you could have had a forecast and started play earlier today of both 9s and in 3 somes……”

Anyhow, the result of the competition seems to be expected, with Scheffler being predicted to clinch yet another win as long as everything goes according to plan. Regardless, one can’t help but admire the golfer for his amazing display of golf, which has also come off in consecutive tournaments.
