Is Jason Timmis the secret weapon behind Aaron Rai's win, or just a great drinking buddy?

It was the fourth round of the 2024 Wyndham Championship. Max Greyserman had a late meltdown at the event, causing Aaron Rai to shoot past the golfer to clinch his maiden PGA Tour victory. But he wouldn’t have been able to do it alone. Enter his caddie of 6 years, Jason Timmis. However, the looper himself is not taking credit for the win, but something else entirely.

A video of the bagman’s interview was shared on X by the official handle of the men’s circuit. During the same, he mentioned how the two have been together for 6 years while exuding praise for Rai. “He deserves it,” said the caddie, “He works so hard. Credits to him. Nothing to do with me. It’s all about Aaron.”

While the looper did dish out compliments for the athlete, he also divulged how he’d be helping Aaron Rai with his celebratory drinking. “He doesn’t drink,” revealed the athlete, “So I’ll do a bit of drinking for him. I think we might get some food first and then we might have a few beers.” Well, the duo sure does deserve it with the scintillating victory that they were able to rake in.

The English golfer was able to clinch the win all thanks to his score of 18-under 262. He did so by registering figures of 65-65-68-64 over the four rounds. Interestingly, Aaron Rai, despite the various hurdles, was able to card a total of 18 birdies, and 4 bogeys, not to mention the 2 eagles he carded on the first two rounds to clinch the title of champion.

That’s not all. Aaron Rai managed to emerge victorious even before the end of the final round of play at Sedgefield Country Club. The play had already been delayed by a significant amount of time before deciding to finish the final two rounds on Sunday. However, fate had different plans for the championship. Enter Matt Kuchar.

Have an interesting take?

The 18th hole at the Sedgefield Country Club witnessed the 46-year-old golfer refusing to play his remaining shots after teeing off the ball. He walked off the course, as per Kyle Porter of CBS Sports, because of the presence of athletes in the fairway at the par-4 hole which he failed to spot. Moreover, none had alerted the athlete about the same before Kuchar drove his ball at the final hole. As a result, the PGA Tour Pro declined to finish the round on Sunday.

Even so, the athlete is currently placed at T12 with a score of 11-under overall. His figures at the end of the day do not affect Aaron Rai claiming the title of champion since he is seven shots ahead of the American pro. The English professional, on the other hand, will surely be reveling in his maiden PGA Tour win that has pushed him inside the top 30 of the FedEx Cup standings. Take a bow, Rai!
