Last month, after more than a year of intense waiting, LIV Golf was hit with the disappointing result that their players would not be granted the OWGR ranking. It was a big setback for the newly formed league, which is filled with many world-top golfers whose ranks are drastically falling.

And just weeks after this blow to the Saudi-backed Tour, the OWGR has once again shown its preference for the PGA Tour. But this time they have snubbed the DP World Tour, undoubtedly disappointing the likes of Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and another shining gem of the European side.

This weekend, both the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour are hosting their respective tournaments. The American League is hosting this year’s last regular event, the RSM Classic, which will finalize full-time status as well as spots in early 2024 signature events as the top 125 exempts are up for grabs.

Meanwhile, the European Tour is hosting its season finale, the DP World Tour Championship. It will see world-top names like world no. 2 Rory McIlroy, world no. 3 Jon Rahm, and Viktor Hovland, who sits in run 4, compete for a win. The RSM Classic, on the other hand, will see players like Ludvig Aberg, Akshay Bhatia, Matt Kuchar, Chris Kirk, and many others.

However, regardless of the presence of top golfers at the European event, Flushing It’s latest tweet pointed to the “absolutely ridiculous” way they are being snubbed. 11 more OWGR points will be given out at the RSM Classic to the winner, which is almost 40% more than the DP World Tour Championship, despite it being the European Tour’s final event.

The field rating for the RSM Classic for this week is 225.26944, while the field rating for the Jumeirah event is 153.76882. Even though both events hold their own significance, the whopping difference in ranking points undoubtedly means the winning stars of the 2023 Ryder Cup will be snubbed if either grabs a win at the high-stakes European finale.

The RSM Classic and DP World Tour Championship have high stakes for the players

As both the tournaments serve as a season-ending finale for each tour, they are equally important. Other than the full-time status, the RSM Classic also offers spots in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Genesis Invitational, which are the first two signature events of 2024. The event has an $8.4 million purse.

The DP World Tour Championship will mark the last stop for the European stars on their tour, with a whopping $10 million purse and the last chance to grab the winning perks of OWGR points and season exemptions. There is also a bonus of $1 million given to the winner of the Race to Dubai, which McIlroy currently leads.
