“I hold no ill will towards Officer Gillis,” said an exonerated Scottie Scheffler as he hoped to put the whole arrest and the subsequent incident behind him and move on. Bryan Gillis, the detective in question, had arrested the golfer while charging him with felony second-degree assault of a police officer. He did so while alleging that the athlete had dragged him to the ground, causing minor injuries. Well, it is the exact same injuries that seem to have received the ridicule of the golf world.

A tweet was shared by NUCLR GOLF on their X handle, revealing pictures of the officer’s legs, pants, and wrist, which Gillis had claimed were injured by the golfer’s actions. The snaps indicate a scrape to the leg and wrist while portraying the clothes that were ripped in the alleged tussle. Moreover, the post also revealed how Gillis’ body cam was turned on after the injury took place.

Scottie Scheffler was all for forgiveness, as he later stated after the whole fiasco, “I try to believe in people being innocent until proven guilty… As I stated before this was an unfortunate misunderstanding… I wish to put the incident behind me and move on, and I hope he will do the same.” His attorney, however, had a different opinion as Steve Romines had accused the officer of a false arrest.

Gillis, in response, didn’t shy away from the accusation either. He went ahead to express his frustrations as well in his statement as well. “It was unfortunate and disturbing to hear Steve Romines’ commentary today claiming that a ‘false arrest’ was made and for him to challenge my honesty and integrity,” mentioned the policeman. He also added how surprising and disappointing it would be if Scheffler had any part in the statements while reiterating his injuries that came as a result of the incident: “To be clear, I was drug by the car, I went to the ground, and I received visible injuries to my knees and wrist.”

The community, however, didn’t take too lightly the recent events or the pictures that were released hours ago. They made sure to convey their disbelief at the injury while also issuing jabs at Detective Bryan Gillis.

Fans call out Scottie Scheffler’s arresting officer

The LMPD had placed Officer Gillis on administrative leave following his actions against the current World No. 1 in the OWGR. This, coupled with the athlete getting released quickly along with the misconduct claims piled up against the arresting offer painted a poor picture of the policeman in question. As such, a fan couldn’t help but retort sarcastically after seeing the picture; “It’s a miracle he survived!”

“It’s not a great look for the police department in terms of civil liability to have released somebody on the spot who allegedly committed this assault in the second degree on a police officer,” pointed out legal expert David Barber while alluding to the whole fiasco. A couple of followers, meanwhile, took to just directly make fun of the officer and his injuries as they commented, “Oh wow he got a scratch on his shin. I hope the ambulance gave him a Peppa Pig bandaid and a sucker,” and “I’ve seen worse from my 10 year old falling off his bicycle.”

A video was released before the charges against Scottie Scheffler were dropped. It showed the Detective running up to the 2-time major champ’s vehicle and appearing to hit his window while reaching inside the SUV. Moreover, the officer’s failure to activate his body-worn camera also added to his troubles. A user consequently replied, “Funny there’s zero video evidence of what caused the damage and surface level injuries. Makes you wonder why Gillis backpedaled his report claiming he recorded the incident …” while another commented, hinting at the released recording, “Was this from when he hit his wrist on the window while swinging a mag light at Scottie’s face?”

A lot of new videos as well as pictures were made public just hours ago, surprising many in the community. Regardless of the new findings, it truly was a dramatic turn of events that took place at the 2024 PGA Championship. Don’t you think so as well?
