Phil Mickelson has run a long race since making his professional debut in 1992. In more than three decades of sporting excellence, the veteran golfer has achieved more than a few distinctions.

To add to the glittering records, Mickelson scripted yet another feat at the ongoing PGA Championship, one even Tiger Woods has failed to surpass yet. The 52-year-old got to hear about his latest accomplishment on the sidelines, where he raved about the historic achievement.

Having lived through an exceptional golf career, Mickelson is reaping rewards for his consistency at the game’s highest level. The six-time major championship winner has many records to his name, but the latest one got him into an elite company, one even Woods would find difficult to get into.

As it happened, Mickelson’s five-over par in the opening two rounds of the PGA Championship helped him make the cut at the tournament by a whisker. But he didn’t have any knowledge of its implications, which narrated a story in itself.

With his PGA Championship cut, Mickelson has officially booked his weekend spot a hundred times in major championships. But what did Mickelson have to say regarding his colossal achievement?

“This first 100 cuts has [sic] been interesting. The second 100 is going to be the most interesting part,” he joked when told about the record. But on a serious note, the 45-time PGA Tour winner claimed that he didn’t have knowledge about reaching the unique position but also maintained that it was a result of hard work and dedication over the years.

The admirable feat puts him alongside legends such as Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player as the only players to reach this distinction. While the latter reached the mark 102 times, the 18-time major championship winner made an extraordinary 131 cuts in majors across his career. Indeed, another golf legend, Tiger Woods, is still further behind the train, with 77 cuts in 91 major starts.
