Headlines are almost an expectation every time Jason Day adorns Malbon Golf. The sheer focus on the PGA Tour pro’s wardrobe ever since he became the streetwear company’s first ambassador this year is enough to create the perfect amount of buzz for the brand. The mayhem went down for his clothes at the 2024 Masters when he was bashed every single day for his outfit choice. On the tournament’s second day, his sweater vest was so loud (figuratively) that authorities had to ask him to take it off.

Day ended his partnership with Nike to get on Malbon Golf’s roster, and needless to say, the designs of the two brands are very different. The same was the scene at the Wells Fargo Championship. He wore conversation starter attire, featuring baggy, crème-colored pants and a button-down, short-sleeved shirt that featured brown-and-white vertical stripes and a chest pocket. Day has served yet another shocking blend of vintage aesthetics and modern golf fashion at the PGA Championship showcasing that bashing at the previous major did not affect his relationship with the brand.

Day was seen sporting an all-green “dental hygienist” look at the Valhalla Golf Club. From top to bottom, the green color added a punch of neutrals with his all-white accessories featuring a cap, a belt, and shoes. As per the 2024 tradition, Day was once called into question by the golf world for adorning the non-traditional outfit, which the brand claims is “ideal for golfers seeking a blend of streetwear flair and traditional golf attire.”

Most fans did not agree that the star was dressed to impress at the PGA Championship. While some fans did present the 36-year-old with lasting empathy, others chose to remain blunt in their responses. So what is it that the golf world thought of this role play as “dental hygienist”?

Fans react to Jason Day’s shocking choice of wardrobe

One fan wrote, “Reminded me to book my teeth cleaning appointment. Thanks!” This comment highlighted the sheer resemblance this streetwear company’s piece had to that of a dental hygienist’s all-green scrubs, so much so that there was nothing to stop Day from camouflaging with the luscious greens of Valhalla.

Another user quickly added a smart punch line and said, “They should get Scottie an all-orange one.” This remark can be traced back to Scottie Scheffler’s brief arrest on Friday morning after an alleged “big misunderstanding” in front of Valhalla. Memes surfaced all over the internet when Scheffler’s mugshot in an all-orange prisoner uniform was resurfaced. The user’s sarcastic remark suggested Malbon Golf capitalize on the ongoing discussion and make an all-orange piece for Scheffler.

Yet another fan of the game, but not so much of the brand, wrote, “#malbongolf must be the worst range of golf clothing ever produced.” Thus making a clear remark on the fact that the brand’s pieces have been heavily trolled in the past for their unexpected takes on golf apparel. Even during the 2024 Masters, the golfer was heavily trolled for his baggy “pantaloons.”

A more supportive and empathetic fan remarked, “Grown men upset over someone’s attire on the course is strange as f*ck.” This fan’s comments not only sympathized with Day’s heavily criticized choice of clothing but also questioned the older generation of golf lovers, questioning his style just because it does not particularly align with the old outlook they envision the game to hold. Interstingly, Day’s baggy and flowy pants that he wore at Masters this year were compared to that of young Tiger Woods that he wore in his prime days.

Another confused fan said, “Cute LIV uniform. Which one is he on? The Lucky Charms or something.” Their reaction to the situation brought into question where Day’s allegiance lay. The fan’s sarcastic remark was a jibe at LIV Golf’s odd team jersey choices. Replying to them, another user clarified, “I don’t believe Jason Day is a LIV golfer. Horrible outfit nonetheless,” making clear that despite Day’s sympathies lying close to the Jay Monahan-led endeavor at the moment, they still would not let this terrible choice of fashion pass by.

All in all, the majority of the golf world’s verdict on Jason Day’s choice of clothing was that it was not in good taste. Stay tuned to EssentiallySports for regular updates about the 2024 PGA Championship as the excitement unfolds at Valhalla!
