After failing to clinch the coveted green jacket last month, LIV’s Brooks Koepka held his nerve on Sunday to add another major victory to his long list of achievements. In doing so, Koepka has become only the 20th golfer in history to win five major championships!
The LIV pro may be taking home the $3.15 million prize, but it was club pro Michael Block whose Oak Hill heroics have made him the talk of the town. After an impressive PGA Championship run, Block has now managed to script history yet again in terms of rankings!

Michael Block makes the ultimate jump in the world rankings
Before the 2023 PGA Championship, Michael Block had played in just over 20 PGA events. What’s even more surprising is that he made the cut in only 4 of them! Over these past few days at Oak Hill, however, he became a golfing hero of sorts.
After all, why not? The 105th edition of the tournament saw the golfer finish ahead of many heavyweights on the leaderboard. His incredible feat has also resulted in the 46-year-old scripting a history-making jump on the Official World Golf Rankings.

Block, who was earlier ranked #3580, has now moved up over 3000 places to attain his current #577 ranking! Despite failing to nab the Wanamaker Trophy, the golfer successfully won the hearts of players and spectators alike on Sunday.
For his final round at Oak Hill, Block had been paired up with World No. 3 Rory McIlroy. While the Irishman’s return to form has delighted many, it was the club pro from Southern California who drew the loudest cheers. In fact, he received the most thunderous ovation of the entire tournament after being introduced on the first tee box on Sunday. Following the final round, the golfer also went on to receive a jaw-dropping payout for his stunning performance!
How much will Block take home after his PGA Championship heroics?
Michael Block’s run at the PGA Championship was a fairytale unlike any other. As the head club professional at Mission Viejo’s Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club, his Oak Hill performance helped him record the best result from a club professional in 35 years. His 1-over 71 on the major’s final day helped him finish tied at 15th with Tyrrell Hatton and Eric Cole, which means he can now appear at next year’s PGA Championship in Valhalla.
