After 24 regular season events, the 2022 Dominion Energy Charity Classic began on October 21. The event is one of the prestigious events in the PGA Tour Champions as it is the first leg of the three Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. Notably, the tournament was founded in 2016, and The Country Club of Virginia in Richmond has been hosting the event ever since.

In no time, the championship will get its winner. And before it happens, let’s find out the prize money and other benefits waiting for the champion after playing 54-holes.

The total purse of the Charity Classic is $2.2 million. Unlike most Tour Champions events, there is no cut made after 36-holes. Nonetheless, only the players who finished all four rounds will get to win a part of the total purse.

Although 72 players qualified for the event, only 68 of them entered the tournament this week. For the champion, the payout will be $335,000, which the officials allotted according to the PGA Tour Champion’s prize distribution chart.

The prize money is the highlight of the tournament. However, the competitors in the official event would also receive extra benefits. The players of regular seasonal events get one Charles Schwab Cup point per dollar they earn each week. However, the golfers playing in the Playoffs can earn two points per dollar.

Winning the Charity Classic will let the player earn 15% of the purse, higher than any others in the field. And the top 5 players in the points table will earn a part of the bonus of $2.1 million. Therefore, the winners of each of the three Playoffs will likely be in the top 5 of the points standings.

Unlike other Tour Champions events, the players need to get qualified to play in the tournament. Only the Top 72 players on the Charles Schwab Cup points standings get a chance to play in the first playoffs. The defending champion, Bernhard Langer, last week’s winner, Fred Couples, and Steve Stricker are some of the players competing to win the first leg of the season-end Playoffs. Notably, Langer has won the event twice since the event began in 2016 and reports suggest he is the top candidate to become the champion.
