If there is one thing other than competition that the sports world proudly embraces, it is family! Athletes are mostly out of their homes to compete in various tournaments and spend a lot of time away from their families. In a way, their fellow players become their unsaid family. A golfer or any other sportsman requires the strength and support of his or her family when they are competing in tough tournaments. Usually, fans get to see partners, kids, parents, and siblings of golfers outside of the ropes, supporting them, but there are times when a golfer’s family is not able to make it to the tournament’s venue for any reason!
But if there is one golfer whose family has barely made any appearance in the past two years on the course, it is veteran Phil Mickelson. This raises a lot of questions as to what the reason might be that fans have not seen Amy Mickelson on the course. Does she not like her husband’s decision? Does she have anything against LIV Golf?

In 2022, Phil Mickelson announced that he was leaving behind his PGA Tour legacy to move to LIV Golf, a Saudi-funded backway league. Although the move was criticized a lot amongst the golf fraternity, the contract worth $200 million might have just cooled down some of the burns that he would have experienced.
If reports are to be believed, Mickelson received half of his contract money upfront. Mickelson was one of the biggest fish that the former rival tour had captured, and his exit from the PGA Tour was a big shock. Before the switch in 2021, Phil Mickelson was the proud vice captain of the USA Ryder Cup, and he looked delighted to be there with all of his compatriots and his beloved wife, Amy.
Although the 6X Major champion’s bank account got tremendously richer than before, his journey in the league has not been very pleasant. Although he hasn’t had any feuds with any LIV mates, like Brooks Koepka, his dearest wife seems not to be on board with the move since she has not made an appearance in any of the events so far in its two seasons.
Amy not being there in any events had raised millions of questions and speculations as to what the reason might be that she always refrains from appearing in LIV Golf events, whereas this was not the case when Mickelson used to play on the PGA Tour. She was often seen on the course alongside her husband during the PGA Tour events, but this has not been the case for LIV Golf. Does this absence hint that Mickelson’s wife of 26 years is against his decision?
Well, though there has not been any assertive response as to whether or not the 53-year-old’s wife is unhappy with his decision or not, her absence speaks volumes. On various occasions, the golfer has mentioned that his wife would be a gracious and loving host to his HyFylers GC teammates and his LIV Golf compatriots as well, but that occasion has not come so far in the last 1.5 years.

Her absence from the course and events indeed hints at something that is not quite yet clear. But amidst all the turmoil, even the golfer’s journey on the backway has not been as affluent as he expected.
Mickelson’s journey on LIV Golf hasn’t been a smooth one
On the PGA Tour, Mickelson was one of the greatest golfers. He had won six majors in his career span and had 45 wins to his name in regular PGA Tour events. But on the contrary, ever since he joined the Saudi-funded tour, he has had a dry spell, in the sense that he hasn’t had any wins. He came close to winning this year, but sadly, he just couldn’t bring it home.

Apart from wins, he has always been one of the strongest LIV Golf advocates who has always engaged in a war of words online, defending the league he plays with. He has often stood up for his LIV Golf compatriots, such as Talor Gooch, when they have had troubles because of rules. Mickelson has often engaged in gambling fiascos and has found himself under a lot of scrutiny and allegations. Other than for gambling, he has been called out a lot for his move from PGA Tour pros.
In a way, it can be said that his journey, despite all the money he got, has not been very soothing. But the hardships on the way have not impacted or affected Mickelson’s admiration for the league, as he continues to advocate for it and play on it!
