2023 has been an interesting season for the Northern Irishman. The PGA Tour decided to merge with LIV Golf; since LIV’s inception, McIlroy has made his thoughts very clear on it. At many moments, he clarified that he was against LIV Golf. As if his year wasn’t already difficult enough due to this unexpected alliance, another tragedy struck.

McIlroy and Tiger Woods proudly introduced a tech-based league, TGL, that was supposed to hit the floors in early 2024. But, due to the venue’s roof being damaged, TGL has been postponed by a year and will now hit the floors in early 2025.

Allegedly, to continue withholding his firm stance on the Saudi-funded league, the Irish golfer stepped down from the PGA Tour Policy Board. But he later clarified that he resigned from his post as player director in order to focus more on his game. In an interview, he said that a day only has limited hours and “something” from his schedule had to go.
