To say that Nelly Korda has had a below-average season this year is not sugarcoating things at all. This season started out at a regular pace for the LPGA cover girl, but soon it all started to go to dust! To quote it as the worst season for her is a bit pushing things forward, but to call it an up-and-down season for her seems okay. The golfer made it to the 2023 Solheim Cup’s USA squad, but in the last individual match on the final day, she lost the point to her European compatriot. Sadly, the American squad lost the match to the European team for the third year in a row, and a distinct two-way history was created.

After the brutal loss, Korda went on a small hiatus and disappeared from everywhere, probably to rest and just get over the painful defeat. She missed the following LPGA Tour events after the Spain showdown. She then returned to compete in the BMW Ladies Championship and Maybank Championship and will now be returning to the season’s second-last event. “The Annika Driven By Gainbridge At Pelican.” Despite the hiatus and her subpar season, Korda still has the zeal to turn things around for her! But the question persists: Will she be able to capitalize on her one last chance before the season’s final CME Group Tour Championship?

Will Nelly Korda be able to prove her worth on the LPGA Tour?

2023 marks the first year in six years where Nelly Korda could go trophyless, barring the pandemic year. This has not happened even once since her rookie season, when she went an entire season without winning on the LPGA Tour. Although she has had many good finishes this year, none of them were good enough to secure a win for her. Although Korda did win the individual title at the Aramco team series, that was not on the LPGA Tour, so the conjecture of her being trophyless on the LPGA Tour still stands strong.

After her hiatus and skipping two events, Korda competed in the BMW Ladies Championship and finished in T16, placing herself in the top 20 on the leaderboard. After this, she made her way to the Maybank championship, jumped 10 positions up on the leaderboard, and ended up on T6 along with Gemma Dryburgh and Brooke Henderson. Though Korda is sitting out of the ongoing Toto Japan Classic, she will have the last chance to turn things around for her this season.

The golfer will be teeing it up at Pelican Golf Club starting November 9, and the fans will get to see her bring her best game forward to end her winless LPGA drought. This would be the last chance for the golfer to not have the abysmal career milestone of going trophyless for a year.

The answer to the question of whether she will be able to do it is surely yes. From the BMW Ladies Championship to the Maybank Championship, the 25-year-old worked on her game and jumped from T16 to T6. If this kind of performance continues, the one-time major winner will surely be holding the trophy at the end of the tournament on November 12th.

Nelly Korda has been one of the most adored, celebrated, and admired players of the LPGA Tour and, in fact, of the entire golf fraternity. One trophyless year won’t really affect her persona on the tour if she is not able to capitalize on the win in the coming week.

The golfer agreed to this season being a blend of ups and downs in one of her recent interviews and said, “I think the season has been up and down.” She further said, “There have been really good finishes. At the beginning of the year, golf felt easy. Just was top-10-ing, and then I got injured, and the momentum of my season shifted. So kind of a little bit disappointing, obviously, but that’s golf, right?”

2023 started as a good year for the 25-year-old LPGA star, as she finished in the top five of her first five events of the season. In March 2023, she came close to winning the HSBC Women’s World Championship, but sadly, it just slipped out of her hands. After this, the golfer faced the recurring issue of her lower back and, hence, was out of the field for quite a few weeks. She also missed the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship this year and then failed to stay in the top 20 at the U.S. Women’s Open. Ever since her only top-10 finish came in France in the Amundi Evian Championship.
