For the seasoned player on the PGA Tour, moving to LIV Golf was not an easy decision at all. By dumping the traditional league, the defectors knew what privileges they were giving up and had weighed the associated scrutiny that would accompany this decision against the benefits. But for top names like Bryson DeChambeau, the move was more than just about the money.
Spilling the beans on what motivated DeChambeau to take this decision, golf writer Alan Shipnuck reveals the circumstances under which the golfer switched leagues. In his new book, LIV and Let Die, which will be released this very month, Shipnuck is taking a deep dive into LIV Golf and all its different aspects.

As a writer, Alan Shipnuck has gained much attention for his feud with Phil Mickelson. He currently writes at the Fire Pit Collective and is about to release a book in October called LIV and Let Die, which he remarks as “the battle for the soul of the game” between the American and the Saudi Tour. As part of his book promotion, he gave an exclusive interview to Golf Week.
In the interview, while talking about Bryson DeChambeau, he pointed out that the comments about the golfer being a sell-out are not entirely fair. Bryson did take the money, but the situation is more nuanced and interesting than that. Shipnuck revealed that for six years DeChambeau wanted to contribute to the Tour by becoming part of the Player Advisory Council, but his request was denied.
He says, “Bryson told me for six years in a row he tried to be elected to the Player Advisory Council on the PGA Tour, which is really a nothing organization that has no power; you just make recommendations. And six years in a row, his peers refused to vote him in.”
Shipnuck continued, “He said, “I guess they just don’t like my ideas”. There was like a sadness in his voice. He’d been completely rejected by his peers.” DeChambeau has been open about the details of his transition. He has been amply rewarded in the league this year and has won two tournaments.

Shipnuck further pointed out how conditions have changed for ‘The Scientist’ after he moved to the new Tour. He was able to get a say in important matters and in return, he gave his best to them. Shipnuck said, “Going to LIV, he’s had a voice, he has a leadership role, he’s extremely invested in everything that goes on. He’s probably closer to Yasir than any other player from everything I’ve been told and observed.”
