The phrase ‘Ryder Cup’ has been buzzing in everyone’s ears recently. With the International event now just weeks away, the excitement is only building. However, amid the thrill, controversy has brewed too. Ever since the announcement of the official team a few days ago, it has been the primary topic of discussion in golf town.

Arguably, there were some names on the list of deserving candidates for the Cup who had moved onto LIV Golf from the PGA Tour. This transition added a layer of challenge to making it to the Ryder Cup for these players, and hence many lost out on their spots. Among them, one such pro is the one-time major-winning LIV golfer. But as per a recent reveal, it seems like this star does not need to play for Team USA to display his patriotism; he does it every time he sets foot on a course!

Besides having nine PGA Tour wins and a few more titles in his bag, Patrick Reed seems to carry in it (in this case quite literally) something of high value to him. And thanks to his brother-in-law and caddie, Kessler Karain, details of it came to light just hours ago. And boy, does it prove how patriotic the American golf pro really is!

A video was recently posted by Reed’s LIV Golf team, the 4Aces GC, on Instagram. The clip showed Karian, who took over the responsibility of Reed’s bag from Justine Reed, a.k.a. the LIV Star’s wife, spilling the beans on the one thing that many people did not know about the former Masters champion.

Karian revealed that the three-time Ryder Cup player (2014, 2016, and 2018) has always carried an American flag in his bag for the past nine years. “Since the 2014 Ryder Cup, he has always carried an American flag in the bag,” said the caddie, clearly drawing attention to how big a patriot Reed was.

Through this move of his, Reed proves that irrespective of whether he is playing in the Ryder Cup or not, the patriot is arguably always thinking of his country with pride and joy out on the course. It also gives new meaning and value to his ‘Captain America’ nickname! And given his history with the event, not many can argue that he doesn’t deserve the name!

Patrick Reed’s roller-coaster Ryder Cup ride across the years

Since his debut at the Ryder Cup in 2014, Reed has gone on to amass a brilliant record of 7-3-2. The highlights of his International event journey, however, came in 2016, when he and Rory McIlroy went head-to-head at Hazeltine. The moment became a memorable one for golf fans. Reed’s intense demeanor impressed the audience big time, and his putting was impressive during the face-off, which proved to be a career-defining moment for Captain America.

In contrast to that glorious contest, Reed had a bit of a struggle in the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National. The European team asserted itself over the US team, and Reed received some comments on his play and behavior in the tournament. The golf pro would certainly hope that his legacy at the prestigious event does not end on that disappointing note; however, whether or not he will play in the future remains to be seen.
