Patrick Reed claims honesty in Ubers—ironic or a new leaf for the controversial golfer?

Are you the talkative one or the silent one when it comes to riding an Uber? Even if you are the latter, you would need to answer if the driver asks you a question, especially if it’s about your job. But there’s always the option to lie to the guy. And that is exactly what many LIV Golf Pros, including Patrick Reed, Kevin Na, and Anirban Lahiri, among others, would do if faced with the same.

A video was shared on the Saudi-backed league’s social media handles, both Instagram and X, revealing how seven LIV Golf athletes answered the question, “What’s your fake Uber Ride Job?” The recording started with Kevin Na, who replied, “I’m an entrepreneur. I do real estate, and I invest in companies.”

That’s not all. The rest of the LIV Golf Pros also took to reply to the fun query. Branden Grace jokingly said, “I’m not really one to talk much in an Uber.” So I normally have that ‘Do not talk to me’ thing, you know?” Carlos Ortiz, on the other hand, seemed to have forgotten the language in front of that question as he hilariously responded, “No English, No English.” Then came Lahiri, who replied, “Nuclear Physicist,” but with a big smile on his face that broke his serious demeanor.

Patrick Reed, meanwhile, couldn’t help but come out candid on the same. “I just hop in the car a lot of times they recognize me, unfortunately,” said the American golfer. So if I’m in an Uber or anything like that where it’s all about them helping me out, I mean if they asked what I do I always just tell them ‘Hey, you know I play golf and then we start talking golf.” Quite a truthful guy, when compared to everyone else, including Richard Bland and Harold Varner III. Funnily enough, the former had chosen to be a “concord pilot” while the latter himself became an “Uber driver” when faced with the query!

While the answers were entertaining, to say the least, the community’s reaction to the video was not as friendly as they would have imagined it to be. Many fans took to issue jabs at the golfers as well as the PIF-funded circuit, all the while criticizing them for being in the same.

Patrick Reed and Co.’s video fails to impress fans

Have an interesting take?

Remember the 2019 Hero World Challenge? Well, Patrick Reed wouldn’t forget. For that was the tournament when he was caught in another controversy during the third shot of the paar-5, 11th hole on Day 3. Back then, his ball was caught in a depression in a sand bunker. Much to everyone’s surprise, the golfer was spotted on camera hitting the ball twice in practice while slowly shifting sand out from under it. Needless to say, Reed was awarded a two-stroke penalty by the officials.

A couple of fans couldn’t help but allude to the controversy before dishing out comments against the golfer. One person responded by typing out, “Ironic Reed saying he would be truthful,” while another reacted, “No one knows who Patrick Reed is unless there is Lies getting improved.” However, another follower didn’t go so far as to take a jab at the golfer but went ahead to comment; “No getting off easy for PReed, everyone knows the 4Aces.” It’s not a surprise, seeing as how the team has won seven times in the league over the three years.

When it comes to Kevin Na, he has only managed to finish inside the top 10 a total of five times over the three years in the LIV Golf League, out of which none were victories. Moreover, his last win came back in 2021, when he was still a part of the PGA Tour, at the Sony Open in Hawaii. A fan took up this chance to poke at the LIV Golf Pro as they commented, “Let’s be honest, no Uber drivers have ever recognized Kevin Na,” while another just attacked the league in general; “Nobody knows who any of these guys are.”

The answers were funny and entertaining, but the reactions from the fans didn’t seem like they had the effect that they hoped they would when the video was shared on the social media handles. Anyhow, what would your fake Uber job be if the query was posed to you?
