Patrick Cantlay is not only the first-ever golfer but also the first athlete signed by the New York-based company. The two announced their partnership before The American Express, as the private equity company is trying to grow its base to reach a more deeply pocketed individual market base.
The CEO of Apollo, Mark Rowan, has said that the firm’s prime focus for the next five years will be to gain high-net-worth individual clients. While giving a presentation at Goldman Sachs, Rowan exclaimed, “So where is the puck going? … The puck is going to retail, high net worth,”
By acquiring Cantlay as its brand ambassador, Apollo Global Management, which has more than $800 billion of assets together, will attract individuals who are interested in investment and retirement plans through various campaigns. The company’s co-president, Jim Zelter, said Cantlay’s “Relentless pursuit of excellence, commitment to his craft and rigorous approach to the game aligns with our approach to investing,” one of the reasons why they chose Cantlay.
While the firm was sure about Cantlay being the perfect partner, the 8-time PGA Tour winner also went on record and shared his reasons as to why he had added Apollo and Athens to his illustrious resume, which will sit on his hat for the coming days.
