Does Patrick Cantlay's gear give him an edge, or is it all about skill on the course?

Patrick Cantlay hasn’t won a tournament this year but he has had 4 top-10 finishes. The pro has not been ranked in the top 10 of the world rankings for three years, but at present, he is competing in the Presidents Cup, and will surely be looking forward to helping the American squad get close to victory. His clubs will play an integral part in his potential success. Let’s take a look at his golf bag for the tournament.

Patrick Cantlay is team Titleist

He has been using Titleist clubs ever since he joined the PGA Tour. He constantly updates his selection and always likes to use modern equipment. This is reflected in his choice of driver, as he has the Titleist GT2 with a Mitsubishi Diamana ZF 60 TX shaft. At $649, the driver is made to ensure distance with a design that is forgiving. The internal weighting mechanism is key to achieving a balance between forgiveness and speed.

It is made for players who demand ultimate playability with consistent distance and forgiveness. In addition to Cantlay, Jordan Spieth also uses these irons. “It’s a competitive advantage… and I have it,” said Spieth about these irons. Cantlay also has some interesting choices when it comes to his wedges and putter.

The Vokey SM9 is another popular choice with the pros. The T Grind is made to provide the ultimate shot-making versatility in any condition. The grind applied is also done by Bob Vokey himself. “With SM9 wedges, you’re going to hit it closer to the hole, more often“, said Vokey. He uses the Scotty Cameron T-5 Prototype putter. He uses the Titleist Pro V1x, costing $55 for a dozen balls. The ball is recommended for players with launches that are naturally low in height and low in spin. Lastly, Cantlay wears the Adidas Tour 360 ‘24 golf shoes, going for $200. He is sponsored by B. Draddy and is often seen in their apparel.
