The 2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans was yet another enthralling 2022 PGA Tour season event. The team of Patrick Cantlay and fellow American professional Xander Schauffele won the event. Apart from their beautiful golf swings, their chemistry is the thing that caught the eyes of the fans. Recently, both professionals spoke about how they became friends.

Friendships between different sports personalities are common in any sport. The sport of golf also has one such strong relationship between Cantlay and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Schauffele. The two were seen playing in a similar paring at the Presidents Cup. They were teammates at the 2021 Ryder Cup at Wisconsin, which their team, Team USA, emphatically won. Furthermore, their pairing won at TPC Lousiana on Sunday at the Zurich Classic.
After their final round ended, they sat down during a media interaction and spoke about their win. The duo also talked about how they became friends and revealed Fred Couples and Tiger Woods’ role in bringing the two professionals closer.

Patrick spoke about the same after being asked by the personnel how did he and Xander become friends. Cantlay said, “We played together in college around, so we knew each other, and then really bonded at Presidents Cup. Fred Couples, especially that week, and so him and Tiger basically decided that they were going to put us together through all our time and playing well and enjoying hanging out with each other, we just became fast friends.”
Xander added, “I think Freddy and Tiger saw sort of our games matching and sort of how we carry ourselves and that matching. No real surprise that we get along so well ever since.”
Cantlay and Xander’s words depict the strong bond over the years. At the same time, it shows the vital role that Fred and Woods played in getting them closer.

Patrick Cantlay and Schauffele dominate TPC Louisiana
The American duo dominated and took apart the challenging and demanding golf course. Patrick and Xander won the 2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans with an overall score of 29-under-par. As a result, they won the event with a comfortable two-shot advantage after the final round. The fellow American professional shot a final round of even-par 72 to finish on the top of the leaderboard.
Their round of 72 included one eagle and one bogey on the opening nine holes on Sunday. As a result, their team moved out in one-under-par, 35. Schauffele and Cantlay made two bogeys and one birdie on the back nine and made the turn in one-over-par, 37. Sam Burns and Billy Horschel finished as the runner-ups to the duo. They ended the event with an overall score of 27-under-par. Thus, they came two strokes short of the leaders and settled for a solo second position finish.
