The golf world has a fair share of misconceptions about their favorite golfers and we mean it is because of the fact that most golfers like to keep their personal life away from the public eye. However, what if we tell you that there is a big misconception about one of the most popular golfers on the PGA Tour that fans wholeheartedly believe? Well, that PGA Tour pro is none other than everyone’s favorite Patrick Cantlay.
Well, we all remember the drama surrounding Patrick Cantlay’s bare head at last year’s Ryder Cup – aka “Hatgate.” Rumors swirled he was protesting unpaid participation, but Cantlay shrugged it off, saying his hat just didn’t fit. That incident gave the fans all the wrong impressions of the golfer but no worries his coach of decades was ready to clear them.
In a recent video by The Golfer’s Journal, Cantlay was seen talking with his coach Jamie Mulligan and boy did they spill some beans! Cantlay began by encouraging the audience to ask questions and recalled his own experience as a 13-year-old at the Tiger Woods Foundation clinic in Anaheim. The golfer also admitted that he felt intimidated by Tiger Woods hitting balls and we mean can you blame him? “When I was your age, I went to a clinic at the Tiger Woods Foundation in Anaheim, and I was kind of scared to ask questions because Tiger was hitting balls and I was 13 years old or something.

Cantlay then introduced his long-time swing coach, Jamie Mulligan, with whom he’s worked since he was eight years old and that’s exactly when things got juicy. According to Mulligan, people often perceive him and Cantlay as serious people which is not true. “I think a lot of times, people think Patrick and I are stoic or that Patrick’s very serious. But those who know us well understand that we have a great time doing what we do”, Mulligan said with a chuckle. He also highlighted the importance of humor in their working relationship and noted that they laugh together every day.
