Unsatisfied. Perplexed. Disheartened. That’s the exact state of American golf fans after their favorite Bryson DeChambeau missed the spot on the most prestigious Paris Olympic team. Sounds appalling, right? Well, embrace yourselves because this is the story of Bryson DeChambeau, the revered two-time U.S. Open champion. Despite getting his hands on the 18-inch-tall, sterling silver trophy, DeChambeau’s heart is set to remain aching. Capturing one of the four major titles is just not enough!
The LIV Golf Pro’s success at Pinehurst No. 2 is laced with a Paris Olympic-sized hole. Even the U.S. Open could not change this starlet’s destiny just because of one legacy-defining choice he made in 2022. Although destiny was not on the 30-year-old’s side, the fans’ support seems to be.
So much so that the golf world has come in unanimously to oppose the current choice for the Paris Olympics. As per the OWGR, only the top 4 American pros get the opportunity to make it to the team. This year, those four spots were grabbed by Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Scottie Scheffler, and Xander Schauffele. None of them is a LIV golfer like DeChambeau. Why?

Well, the Paris Olympic Games selection criteria are highly dependent on the Official World Golf Ranking System, a system that is poles opposite of the pillars on which LIV Golf is built. The host of Pat McAfee show said, “I think I speak for everybody in the United States, we wish you were representing the US in the Paris Olympics brother.”
Talking about the Summer Olympics, the LIV golfer said, “I would love to represent the United States,” but he then said that he hopes that soon enough things in the golf world come back to normal so that golf can become great again. “Nothing would mean more to me than putting on the red, white, and blue for Team USA at the Olympics,” said DeChambeau on X.

While some fans described their overall hurt over the current team selection, others were focused on one choice, picking Wyndham Clark over Bryson DeChambeau. Despite Clark being World No. 5, exactly five spots over DeChambeau, the heroics of the latter precede the former in every way, and the fans remain well aware of this. So, it makes sense why a collective outcry over the current selection criteria has surfaced. But what is it that the fans have to say?
Fans react to the 2024 American team for the coveted Paris Olympics
Not everyone is happy with Clark’s inclusion in the American team. One fan went as far as to write, “Wyndham Clark representing the United States on the world stage is when you know golf is in a horrible place.” Thus, they expressed their disregard for the inclusion of this starlet as opposed to other greats like DeChambeau. Comparing the major performances of the two, Clark has missed the cut at the Masters, and PGA Championship, whereas DeChambeau finished at T6, and T2 respectively. However, before DeChambeau moved to LIV Golf, he had historically been on a higher pedestal, ranking-wise, than Clark, thus embodying the fans’ love for this beloved star.

Another fan was quick to declare, “The best player isn’t on that roster,” showing their remembrance of the mighty 2024 U.S. Open winner in the event of this rare national representation at the Summer Olympics. This year, the LIV golfer has been on a stellar run at the majors. He had faired beautifully and has given tough competition to the PGA Tour pros.
Yet another fan strongly suggested, “@b_dechambeau should be in that team!” It seemed to be a clear consensus among fans that Bryson DeChambeau should have secured one of the four spots, despite the ongoing system’s whims and fancies. Another more suspecting and disbelieving golf fan quickly remarked, “Wyndham Clark must have some absolute dirt on some of these gold execs because there is no way he is one a top 4… or even top 10 American golfer.”

All in all, the golf world seemed to be in unison with DeChambeau’s plight and continues to live in the hopes of an integrated world one day where talents like DeChambeau and Koepka get their rightful place.
