The top 60 men golfers will be heading to the City of Love for the 2024 Paris Olympics, and just two hours away from this year’s host city, there is the grand and historic Le Golf National awaiting them. The Olympics stand as a unique event in the golf fraternity, as unlike other professional events, there will be no millions at stake at the Summer Games.
However, there will be decorative gold, silver, and bronze medals, and some other perks up for grabs for the gold medalist playing at Le Golf National. This will include some steamy exemptions for the next year and world ranking points. How much will it be, and what will be the exempt events?

Last year, Xander Schauffele won the gold medal and earned 50 Official World Golf Rankings points; a similar point will be given to the gold medalist this year too [a major gives 100 points], as per Today’s Golfer’s reports. Moreover, one more thing will be given to the gold winner, which was not the case in 2021.

This year’s gold medalist in golf (men) will get an exemption in all four majors of the 2025 season: the Masters, PGA Championship, US Open, and the Open. The gold winner will also be eligible to play in the PLAYERS Championship and the Sentry TOC in 2025. The OWGR points granted will largely benefit the LIV Golf Pro as this would present them with a good chance to improve their world rank after their plea for points was rejected by OWGR.
Moreover, getting an exemption for all the majors will also remove the pressure from any golfer’s mind, as they will have already secured their berth. But the LIV golfers’ exemption from the PGA Tour events will be dicey as the Tour doesn’t allow players from unauthorized leagues to play at their events.
The given ranking points may change the world’s ranking massively in both men’s and women’s golf. But here’s what the men’s OWGR may look like after the Paris Olympics’s conclusion.

The change in OWGR after the Paris Olympics
The top three on the Official World Golf Ranking will be at the Le Golf National Field, aiming for gold or any of the three medals. However, regardless of their win or loss in Paris, their ranks will not change after it, Nosferatu reported on X. But several others on the OWGR list will see an improvement in their ranks if they can win the gold.
The Spaniard, Jon Rahm, who has seen a drastic form in the 2024 season and descended to world no. 10th, winning the gold medal, will have four spots at six. Three other top PGA Tour players, Wyndham Clark (USA), Collin Morikawa (USA), and Viktor Hovland (Norway), may be catapulted to 4th rank and take over Ludvig Aberg, but if he wins the major, he will remain world no. 4.

Other significant changes after week #31’s conclusion will be seen in Hideki Matsuyama’s rank going from 12th to 7th and Tommy Fleetwood’s from 14th to 10th if they clinched the gold medal. On the other hand, Tom Kim, Matt Fitzpatrick, Matthieu Pavon, Sepp Straka, Jason Day, and Shane Lowry will eye the 11th rank.
This year, the gold medalist will have many things to rack up and take home. Will Schauffele successfully defend his medals and bring another to glory to American land? Or someone else will steal all the benefits away? It remains to be seen.
