Some sporting events make the world stand still and take notice. The Super Bowl is one such occasion. The finale for an enthralling season of football is a celebrated event across the United States. The 59th edition of the Super Bowl, or Super Bowl LIX, as it is referred to, saw the Philadelphia Eagles claim victory against the Kansas City Chiefs with an impressive score of 40 – 22.

One iconic part of a Super Bowl game is the Halftime show. World-renowned artists take the stage during the break and the crazy part about that is they do it for free. The event is so popular that the publicity and endorsement money in itself, makes for a huge haul. In this edition, the headlining act was Kendrick Lamar. The 22-time Grammy winner, however, failed to live up to the expectations as his concert proved to be highly divisive.

The not-so-great performance prompted golf influencer Paige Spiranac to take to Twitter and drop a suggestion. Spiranac suggested that the Super Bowl organizers try to change the genre next year. In her tweet, she said, “Hear me out a country music halftime show next”

Even though she’s a golfer, Spiranac thought that her influence over the internet could be used to voice out a change that fans might be wanting. And she did hit the nail right, fans of the influencer found the idea to be both innovative and appealing. The replies were flooded with positive takes on Spiranac’s suggestion, but it could also be a product of Kendrick Lamar’s performance that did not strike well with all the viewers.

Fans agree with Paige Spiranac’s suggestion

Is it time for the Super Bowl to embrace country music and ditch pop performances?

One fan was ecstatic with the suggestion. According to the netizen, country music is much more enjoyable and attracts a more global audience. “That is what I was thinking too! Country Music will resonate and appeal to wider audience better!” Pop music tends to appeal more to a younger audience, especially with such new-age artists like Kendrick Lamar, which is why Spiranac’s suggestion might not be a bad idea after all.

The Super Bowl LIX was a blowout, especially in the first half. Touchdowns from Jalen Hurts, Cooper DeJean, and A.J. Brown along with a field goal from Jake Elliot from 48 yards had the Eagles up by 24 unanswered points against the defending champions. The intensity the Eagles brought on defense was a clear indication that the game was not going to change much in the second half. One fan was quick to point out that a country music concert would have been a perfect encapsulation of the hopes of Chiefs fans at halftime. “Considering this was a funeral by halftime, a boring soppy country set would have been perfect.”

A few fans rode on Spiranac’s suggestion and had some good choices as artists. Ten-time Grammy winner Chris Stapleton was one fans’ suggestion. He also went on to suggest that the concert should be proper country music and not a hybrid version with other genres involved.“As long as it’s real country music like Chris Stapleton and not some hip hop version of it.”

Ten-time Grammy nominee Eric Church was also another suggestion. The singer of ‘Springsteen’ and ‘Give Me Back My Hometown’ is a popular name amongst Country music enthusiasts. “Please let Eric Church play the halftime show. It would be incredible.”

One fan also posited that country music is not new for the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl XXVIII between Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills featured an ensemble of country musicians. The halftime show which was titled ‘Rockin’ Country Sunday’ featured Travis Tritt, Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, and Wynona Judd along with an appearance from Naomi Judd. “They did in the 90’s when the Cowboys were playing. Travis Tritt played one year.”

Spiranac’s suggestion has become a popular one and maybe the NFL can take the suggestion and give the halftime platform to a country musician in the next edition taking place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Do you think the Super Bowl would benefit from a country music concert at halftime?
