The 2024 Showdown was the ultimate face-off between the two rival leagues. The entire community was excited for the event. PGA Tour emerged victorious. The LIV golfers have been under scrutiny for not playing real golf for very long now. They do want equal chances too to prove themselves, and they have a few ideas.

At the press conference ahead of the eighteen-hole event, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka shared how the second edition of the Showdown might be as big as an expanded LIV Golf vs. PGA Tour match, that too in Ryder Cup style.

“I think the showdown is a great showcase for bringing the two tours a bit together, and I think we’re going to do it next year,” said Brooks Koepka. “All of us can align and bring something bigger and better so we can have a couple more times where they can or just at least one more time where we can see most of the best players from both sides competing more against each other.”

The 5X major champion also added how huge this would be in the golf world, garnering all the attention of the fans. This year, the golf world has witnessed a staggering downfall in its viewership, and the prime reason for that was not seeing golf’s best together. When asked if the event would be more of a rivalry than a “friendly exhibition,” Koepka emphasized that the LIV side would be eager to prove it has the best players in the world.

And well, Brooks Koepka is not alone in believing that this might work wonders! Paige Spiranac is also the one to believe. She took to her official X account and wrote, We need a PGAT vs LIV Ryder Cup pronto #TheShowdown,” a few hours ago.

Well, looks like the Showdown expansion might really not be a very far-fetched dream. But it might not be as great as the golfers themselves are anticipating it to be, and the anticipated second edition does not garner much love.

The Showdown gets crushed by the fans

The rivalry between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour has been simmering for the past two years, making the idea of their top players facing off feel like a dream matchup. With all four players having standout 2024 seasons, the prospect seemed almost too good to be true. However, TNT managed to pull it off, organizing a thrilling showdown at Shadow Creek Golf Course in North Las Vegas, Nevada.

However, the Showdown was not able to live up to the expectations of the golf world, as they called it dull. To begin with, the fans did not like the concept of watching Brook Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, and Scottie Scheffler competing under the lights. This isn’t what golf fans are used to in terms of viewing experience. The commentary on TNT has fallen short of the entertainment value seen in previous star-studded matchups.
