Paige said, “What was interesting though, is that Alan Shipnuck has been writing this book on Phil. And he’s been sitting on these quotes for a very, very long time. It was interesting the timing of which he released it or dropped it. And people are now saying that he saved the tour.”

“Because of these comments, it seemed that the Saudi league basically disappeared overnight, completely fell apart. And we were seeing a lot of players just kind of like mysteriously withdraw from events and not playing tour events.” She added, “So it was very interesting how that one quote, pretty much changed the entire landscape of what was happening in the golf community.” Sure, it really looks like the hype about SGL has faded away. However, things can really change fast in the sport of golf.

Consequences of saying yes to SGL

PGA Tour has clearly specified that any allegiance with the Saudi Golf League can affect the professional in bad ways. If any professional is found in alliance with the Saudi-backed golf league can suffer a temporary suspension. As well, it can result in a likely full-time ban.
