There have been many multiple winners in the 2024 season and Padraig Harrington is one of them. The Irishman has been frequent on the PGA Tour Champions and as the veteran league made Arkansas one of its stops after 10 years, Harrington showed what he could do. Notably, Harrington won the Dick’s Open and the Hoag Classic Newport Beach early in the year.
So, when he teed up at the inaugural Simmons Bank Championship on Sunday at Pleasant Valley Country Club with his clubs, there was no doubt that the 53-year-old could do it once again. After shooting a 5-under 67, he celebrated his two-shot victory in Arkansas. This determined that the Irishman will be a part of the Champions season finale, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, starting in two.
Courtesy of his eighth PGA Tour Champions victory, Harrington took home $365,000 from Little Box and a trophy that was half his size. He posed with his latest achievement, but amid the victory dance, also revealed the hilarious downside of it all.

Well, it actually also looked heavy so kudos to Harrington for lifting it up without breaking the trophy or his back. It was truly an incredible victory in Arkansas for the 53-year-old, demonstrating that the Irishman still had the power to compete and win. This experience reminded Harrington of his past, bringing back the sweet memory of continuing to add new victories to his portfolio.

Notably, the Simmons Banks Championship was newly added to the PGA Tour Champions, but it became the Charles Schwab Cup’s playoff event in just an inaugural year. Winning it catapulted Padraig Harrington from 11th in the rankings to 4th and a step closer to actually winning the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, two weeks from this win in Phoenix Country Club in Arizona.
However, it also allowed the 53-year-old to reconnect with his younger golf days. After winning the tournament, Harrington faced the cameras for the ultimate interview. He added, “The whole of being in contention and trying to hit the shots under pressure, it’s like you’re back as a young lad, it’s like you’re back in the good old days. It is very much out here on the Champions Tour, you’re reliving the past glories.”
The past glories of Harrington involve emerging victorious in three majors, three other PGA Tour events and twelve more DP World Tour wins. Indeed, they were sweet and now it is better to continue winning in his pro career at the age of 53. Undoubtedly, only golf allows such liberty and even Harrington agrees!
