The American golfer had earlier taken to Twitter in a bid to expose the ranking body while indicating the reason behind the recent OWGR rulings. The 53-year-old also accused the PGA Tour of being the reason behind the system’s decision to not offer points to the players in the PIF-funded League. And, he did the same once more ahead of the tournament in Miami, in a press conference.
The 45X PGA Tour champ went ahead to mention how the Middle Eastern circuit should focus on what they are doing and “make our product as good as possible,” since they are striving to grow the game globally. Besides, the 6X major winner also pointed out how they should also continue to tweak the format in a bid to be more interesting all the while expressing how the ranking system needs to do the same.
However, continuing on his response, the golfer did try bringing to light what exactly the OWGR is doing and why they are doing so. ‘Lefty’ said, “It’s not what they are putting out there on the front page. There’s a lot more going on behind the scenes as to the importance of us to the getting points to the PGA Tour,” reiterating his belief on how it was the latter’s desire that led to the denial of points to the LIV Golf Series.
The 2021 PGA Championship winner had earlier done the same when he took to Twitter to reply to South African golfer Trevor Immelman who tried to poke the Saudi-backed league.

Mickelson’s feud with Immelman
When OWGR released its verdict sighting the no-cut format of the 54-hole tournament and the limited number of players joining the competition as reasons for its rejection, Immelman took to Twitter to comment on the same. He mentioned how the golfer would follow the rules set by the ranking organization if he ever was to start a new Tour.
In response to this, Mickelson made sure to expose OWGR as he accused the government bodies of running a “monopoly” while bashing the PGA Tour TV contract as the reason behind the rejection. Moreover, he also invoked CBS Chairperson, Sean McManus, and indicated at how he is aware of all that ‘Lefty’ has said.
