Professional golf is no longer about a gradual learning curve. In the modern day, young players appear and make a significant impact. PGA Tour Pro Golfer Ludvig Aberg perfectly fits the example. After securing a solo second finish at this year’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the 24-year-old found himself in the 11th position on the OWGR ranking even before making his 19th professional start, a feat that had only been achieved by Mr. T, a.k.a. Tiger Woods.
In the following events, Aberg could not replicate the impressive performance that he put forth on the Californian greens, ending the Genesis Invitational at T19. This was followed by a setback at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, as the PGA Tour Pro was not able to make it to the desired position, ending the event at T25 alongside Grayson Murray, Xander Schauffele, and Erik van Rooyen. However, it turns out he had something bigger in store for him!

Even though the one-time PGA Tour winner failed to climb into the top 10 on the Arnold Palmer Invitational’s leaderboard. The points acquired on Bay Hill Golf Course helped the Swede break into the OWGR’s top 10. Golf’s ranking guru, Nosferatu, took to its official X handle (formerly known as Twitter) and posted a happy picture of Ludvig Aberg from the course. Along with the picture, he announced, “🚨BREAKING 24 yo Swede, Ludvig Aberg, will move to #10 in the world rankings, only 9 months and 20 starts after he turned pro!! #APInv #OWGR 🇸🇪 💪.”

The 2023 RSM Classic winner started the fourth signature event with a bogey and ended round one with a score of +1 (73). The Swedish national could not get the proper rhythm on day two either, as he carded five bogeys and three birdies, finishing the round at +2 (74). On the third day, Aberg did find his mojo back and ended the round with a 3 under 69. Finally, ending the event on an even par.
Starting the 2024 season in the 30th position, Ludde has made massive strides and has seen an exponential rise in his OWGR ranking. But what if that were not the case? The 24-year-old was approached by Greg Norman’s led circuit not once but twice but both times the PGA Tour pro turned them down. So what was the reason behind Aberg’s refusal to join LIV Golf?

Why did Ludvig Aberg not join the LIV Golf?
Ludwig Aberg, during an interview, said that the first time LIV Golf offered him a contract was during his amateur days. The 24-year-old spoke about the potential red flags and was not the one to chase after money and stated, “There were a number of red flags, which is not good. We realized that I could potentially burn a lot of bridges, and I wasn’t interested in that. When I look back, I am very confident in my decision. I will never chase money, what I do is compete. I did the right thing.”

The PGA Tour pro also shared his reasons to stay back at the American circuit because, even though the PGA Tour, according to the Swede, has become a bit fragmented, given the history of the circuit, it still consists of the best players in the world and iterated, “I want to play against the best, because I am a competitive person and like to compete against the best players.” So, a sound and composed decision was indeed what catered to the unparalleled success that Ludvig Aberg is enjoying today!
