The Greg Norman-led LIV Golf Invitational Series has taken the golfing world by storm. We are witnessing many top golfers from the PGA Tour joining this rival league. However, the PGA Tour is trying to maintain its authority in the golfing world by increasing the purses and regularly discussing the LIV threat with its players.
Meanwhile, LIV Golf has roped in Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and others. Despite that, they are lacking a massive thing: recognition from OWGR. Hence, if Norman can successfully get approval from the OWGR for the LIV Golf, we can consider the LIV Golf puzzle complete.

Greg Norman blasts the OWGR for not recognizing LIV Golf
Greg Norman recently wrote a letter to LIV golfers about receiving recognition from OWGR. He believes that without LIV golfers, there would be no accuracy in the OWGR. According to Norman, “Without LIV’s inclusion, the integrity and accuracy of the rankings themselves are severely compromised.”
He says despite the smaller fields, the strength of each LIV Golf event is competitive with golfers like Bryson, DJ, Koepka, Reed, and others in the field. Furthermore, the former Australian golfer says OWGR recognition for LIV is not only for the golfers but also for the OWGR, as without the LIV golfers, the OWGR will remain inaccurate.

“Without including player performances against these industry-leading fields, the OWGR are now inaccurate,” said Greg. Meanwhile, golfers need OWGR so that they remain eligible to qualify for future majors. However, since LIV Golf doesn’t have OWGR ratings, they are reaching a new low in their OWGR rankings.

Dustin Johnson, who was in 3rd place at the start of the year, is now outside of the top 20. Bryson DeChambeau is in 33rd, while Mickelson has dropped from 34th to 104th.
Therefore, to establish itself as a long-term league, they need recognition from OWGR. “Simply put, it will be impossible to consider the OWGR ratings accurate or even relevant if OWGR persists in omitting 48 of the best golfers in the world,” concluded the LIV Golf CEO.
