In the past season, Grayson Murray had missed the cut eight times out of the thirteen starts he made. And in the last two years, he barely came close to winning any event on the PGA Tour. Murray’s last and only victory on the Tour was the 2017 Barbasol Championship. Since then, he has won various times on the Korn Ferry Tour but never on the PGA Tour.

Moreover, over the years, there have been various obstacles hindering his path to success. In 2022, while returning from the Bermuda Championship, Murray was involved in a scooter accident; he suffered 50 stitches, and 25 were on his face, per Golf Week. The 1x PGA Tour has also battled with alcohol addiction. Now, after grappling with the challenges, Murray is finally making moves in the winning circle.

When the 30-year-old was asked about his vicissitudes, Murray replied that the “scooter accident in Bermuda” was a low point in his life. He later talked about his struggles with alcohol addiction and said, “I’m over eight months sober now.” Murray then credited his family for his recovery and said, “I have a beautiful fiancée that I love so much and who is so supportive of me, and my parents are so supportive of me.”

Furthermore, Murray credited his caddie, Jay Green, for being his “biggest cheerleader,” which makes it easy for him to play and go through the hard day and makes him “feel a lot more at peace inside the ropes now.” After fighting many battles, Murray’s eyes are all set on clinching his second victory on the men’s circuit. However, even if he accomplishes this feat, lifting the trophy might not be on the cards.

Was lifting a trophy injurious to Grayson Murray’s health?

Even though Murray did not find much luck on the PGA Tour in the 2022–23 season, the 30-year-old was able to bag wins at the Korn Ferry Tour. Last year, Murray clinched his third victory on the Korn Ferry Tour at the Simmons Bank Open. While he took home $150,000 in payout and a guitar with a strap trophy, what he unintentionally also received was a back injury. Murray said, “I actually got hurt holding the trophy,” which caused a herniating bulging disc. He later clarified that he was fine and was taking Aleve for the time being.

Moreover, he explained the reason behind the trophy injuring him. Murray revealed that the trophy was “45 pounds” and that he had been holding it for more than an hour. The time and the weight put a lot of pressure on his back. So, if he wins the second time on the PGA Tour, he might need a little assistance while celebrating the victory.
