Per reports, many players have also called for Monahan to step down as the PGAT commissioner as he backtracks on his previous criticism of the Saudi-backed breakaway league.

As the controversy escalates, he has now decided to take some time off his job due to a medical situation. In his absence, however, a new revelation about the PGAT-LIV deal has now come to light!

A new revelation about PGA Tour’s $3 billion deal surfaces

From sheer anger to utter dismay, the PGA Tour’s latest announcement has evoked many emotions in fans and players. To add to the Tour’s woes, the US Senate has also opened an investigation into the deal. Consequently, the golf world continues to be in the dark about how the near-$3 billion deal will eventually work out.

However, executive vice president and president of the PGAT, Tyler Dennis, has now offered the golf world some much-needed insight. Dennis has temporarily stepped in to take care of operations in Jay Monahan’s absence. On Wednesday, he shared that there is a “lot of exciting momentum” in the Tour at the moment.

All of our priorities remain unchanged. We’re working very hard towards the definitive agreements. There will be a lot of news on that subject in the coming weeks and months,” Dennis shared with Golf Channel’s Damon Hack on Wednesday. He also shed some light on PGAT chief Monahan’s medical leave.

PGA Tour executive shares new detail about Jay Monahan’s absence

On Wednesday, PGA Tour executive Tyler Dennis shared that Jay Monahan has received overwhelming support from well-wishers after temporarily stepping aside to recuperate from an undisclosed medical condition. He also revealed that the Tour is “full steam ahead as a business” despite Monahan’s absence. Dennis, along with Chief Operating Officer Ron Price, is currently at the helm of affairs in the Tour. He also expressed that the golf community can soon expect exciting news regarding the Tour’s 2024 schedule.

So far, there has been no update about Monahan’s return to office. The PGAT boss, who ascended to the position in 2017, has been receiving significant flak from detractors since the merger announcement last week. Players who turned their backs on huge deals from the LIV league have also relayed their frustrations. Even Rory McIlroy, who has always been a fierce Monahan loyalist, recently shared his inhibitions regarding the deal.

The agreement has further sparked rage in human rights groups as well.
