Golf is undoubtedly a difficult game. Not only do players need to be mindful of their own gameplay, strokes, clubs to use, bunkers to avoid, and deal with wind conditions, but they also need a serene mindset going in.

Brian Harman is leading the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, Hoylake right now and everyone is dying to know his mindset for the esteemed event. The two-time winner on the PGA Tour has a unique perspective on coping with the links.

The 36-hole leader of the Open Championship has held on to his rank so far. Could it be that he finally internalized the technique he has been wanting to revert to for years?

When asked about his high school golfing experience and his expertise in his amateur years, Harman shared, “I’ve spent the majority of my professional career trying to rekindle some of that.” The Pro golfer illuminated his relaxed mindset during his early life. “My mental approach to it, I was much more confident and much more willing to take on shots.”

According to Kyle Porter on Twitter, he was further asked if he enjoyed the freedom more when he was on amateur circuits. Harman who is leading the Open Championship with a 12-under par after his final round, shared a little insight into his time as a professional golfer.

“When you get to harder golf courses, everything constricts,” he said. “The greens are more firm, the fairways are more narrow, so it kind of lends itself to more anxiety.” Harman added that he liked playing with a lot of freedom in the old days.

Whether or not Harman is considering the Royal Liverpool links as a stage to explore his play with freedom, he has been firmly holding his spot at the top of the leaderboard since round 2.

Harman has set a gap between his competitors and himself since making the cut on Friday. Although several golfers came close, the two-time winner on the PGA Tour was able to maintain his stroke lead.

In round 4, Harman had a bit of misfortune with two bogeys in the front nine. However, he made it up with two birdies as well. He is still ahead with 12-under par and is going steady. According to the Open Championship, his chances of winning have risen by 12%. If no one bridges the gap he set, it is likely that Brian Harman may win the Open Championship this season.
