The Royal Liverpool Golf Club served as the turf for more nail-biting action on Moving Day ahead of Sunday’s final round. With heavy hitters like Brian Harman, Jon Rahm, and Cameron Young in contention for the Claret Jug, the 151st Open is expected to draw to a thrilling end in a matter of hours.
Among the players who have garnered significant attention at the major is an up-and-coming European Tour pro, who missed the Scottish Open title by mere inches just days ago. While the 26-year-old may have failed to replicate his Renaissance Club heroics this week, he is now making waves for his latest comments regarding PGA Tour’s risen-again hero Rickie Fowler!

Over the past couple of weeks, two players, Rickie Fowler, and Robert MacIntyre, have managed to take hold of the narrative in the golf world successfully. While Fowler sealed his first PGA Tour win in four years earlier this month, the lesser-known MacIntyre grabbed eyeballs for becoming the player who almost denied Rory McIlroy his 27th PGAT title.
In a surprising twist of fate, both players got the chance to spend the first three rounds of the ongoing Open Championship in each other’s company. However, Fowler has managed to fare significantly better than his playing partner so far.
While the World No. 22 surged up to the 24th place on the leaderboard on the back of his third-round 67, MacIntyre is lagging far behind owing to his moving day score of 2-over-par 73. So, did the Scottish golfer draw any “inspiration” from Fowler’s blistering ways? “No,” MacIntyre unexpectedly confessed on Saturday. “I still fight, I still try, but when you don’t know where it’s going, you’ve got no hope out on the golf course like that.”
“Rickie is a good player. He; played really well today, played well the last two days,” he further added, acknowledging Fowler’s current form. “I know what I can do, and today I was so far off it.”
Meanwhile, Fowler heaped praise on MacIntyre during his third-round press conference, admitting that he was hoping for a Ryder Cup reunion in September.

Owing to his recent resurgence, Rickie Fowler is one of the favorites to make it into Zach Johnson’s US squad for the upcoming Ryder Cup tournament in Rome. Robert MacIntyre, on the other hand, moved into one of the automatic qualification spots for the European side after his runner-up finish at the 2023 Scottish Open. And now, after spending three rounds playing with each other, Fowler is hoping that he will get the chance to compete against MacIntyre in the biennial event.
“I don’t know exactly where Bob stands, but I would expect him to be there as well,” Fowler said after his third round. “He’s a great kid and solid golfer.” Both golfers have also played alongside each other at the Scottish Open in the past. Last week, MacIntyre had talked about being paired up with Rory McIlroy and Fowler during the tournament’s 2019 edition, an experience that had left him feeling thoroughly nervous.
