When the biggest names in golf defected to LIV last year, they were dropped by some of their sponsors as well. UPS severed its 14-year-long ties with Lee Westwood, while Dustin Johnson and Adidas also ended their decade-long relationship.
LIV’s Patrick Reed has suffered a similar setback with sports equipment company PXG. The brand’s founder and billionaire Bob Parsons weighed in on the situation, making his feelings about Greg Norman’s Saudi-backed breakaway league clear.

In 2022, Patrick Reed was one of the several big names to ditch the PGA Tour and join Greg Norman’s Saudi-backed LIV Golf. Reed had signed with PXG in January last year, joining the likes of Zach Johnson, Joel Dahmen and James Hahn. However, his contract has not been renewed, as confirmed by the brand’s billionaire CEO Bob Parsons.
“We’ve had some guys that had contracts that went on that tour, and I honored the contracts,” shared Parsons in an interview with Esquire. “But now that the contracts are up, I have no contract with them, and I don’t think they can contract with sponsors with the LIV tour, at least.”
The PXG and GoDaddy founder, whose net worth is a whopping $3.4 billion per Forbes, is also a veteran of the Vietnam war. Parsons shared that he cannot let “bygones be bygones” when it comes to LIV. “I just cannot bring myself to do anything with [LIV], and the guys who are heroes, they all agree with that,” he said.
Parsons’ PXG is the first company to publicly call out the Saudi-backed breakaway league. Other LIV players whose contracts have not been renewed by PXG include Jason Kokrak, Pat Perez and Hudson Swafford. LIV continues to struggle with sponsorships.
A LIV golfer reveals a major sponsorship update
As LIV’s war with rival Tours wages on, the league has also faced considerable hardships in gaining sponsorship deals. Golfing heavyweights like Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed and more have seen sponsorships coming to an end since their defection. Recently, however, a new LIV golfer shared an update about the alleged fresh sponsors lining up to bankroll the league.

Thomas Pieters, who earned a good rep for his performance on the DP World Tour, joined LIV earlier this year. Appearing on Fore Play Golf, the 31-year-old revealed that sponsors are waiting for the legal battle between LIV and PGA to end.
“I’m not gonna name brands or companies, but they’re kind of awaiting all these lawsuits. And, you know, some of these companies have big, big markets in Saudi or, anywhere else, and I think they want us to bolster, but they’re just kind of, you know, holding back right now,” he shared.
