The LIV superstar, Cameron Smith, is back in his hometown and has been doing great since then. Last week, he carded a three-under 68 at Royal Queensland Golf Club in Brisbane. His performance at the Australian PGA Championship was the perfect homecoming; however, he aims bigger now.

Smith is back to his home after three long years to be part of the LIV event of 2023. Due to COVID, he was away on the road, but returning home has added big aspirations to his heart. He is eyeing to play with the former no.1. Smith wants to have the showdown with an Australian golfer, but why? Let’s find out.

Why does Cameron Smith want to play with former no.1?

The LIV defector is exceptionally keen to fight for the title this week. To be part of the final team, Smith’s playing partner will be the former no.1 golfer Adam Scott. He is also an Australian professional golfer; therefore, the 2022 Open championship winner is looking forward to playing with him on Sunday. He said, “I’d like it – I haven’t done that yet with Scotty.” The pro further added that it might be hard to chase Scott. Even though he is old, he is getting into his form; therefore, the weekend might be challenging.

The golf fans and the spectators will watch a good game this weekend, as two outstanding golfers will try to claim the title. Talking about playing with Scott, the Aussie golfer said“He’s obviously one of the best golfers ever, so that it would be a good one.” Smith is looking forward to Sunday, as an earlier performance by both has been good.

Scott was two strokes ahead of Smith in T4 after posting five-under 66. They played with Min Woo Lee, Jason Scrivener, and John Lyras, who led on the six-under. However, Smith performed well and did not disappoint his fans at Queensland GC. He carded an outward 32 and four birdies right before a modest 36 came home. The pro made every fan’s heart fly.

What did Scott say about Smith?

The Aussie player and PGA legend Scott was pleased to see Smith back in his hometown. He also appreciated how all the good golfers were coming back to their element. He said, “It’s exciting that Cam’s coming home to play off the back of the year that he’s had.” 

Fans are also looking forward to the game on Sunday. Also, it will be interesting to watch the iconic showdown of the current number three golfer and former number one golfer.
