PGA Tour’s Shriners Children’s Open has been a huge hit in the golf world. After a weekend full of competition, the event has now come to an end, and commendably, Tom Kim has successfully defended his PGA Tour title for the second year in a row.

His performance this year has secured him a spot next to Tiger Woods in the records books of the PGA Tour. The young golfer now stands as a prodigy to a legacy being recreated.

At the Shriners Children’s Open, with a closing round of 5-under 66, Kim emerged victorious from a tight battle with a number of players who had a chance to win in the final hour. Kim’s final score of 20-under 264 secured his third PGA Tour title in the last 15 months, an achievement so remarkable that has now placed him in rare company.

Kim secured a PGA Tour victory last year as well, becoming the record holder of the youngest PGA Tour victor since Tiger Woods in 1996, and now he has proven his prowess again. Kim’s triumph at the age of 21 not only solidified his position as a fairly young rising star in the golfing world but marked his status as the youngest player since Tiger Woods in 1997 to secure three tour wins.

A recent tweet by ESPN Stats and Info further clarified Kim’s sensational achievement:

Now, with a victory so big, Kim also joins the legendary Byron Nelson as the only player to have won the same PGA Tour event twice in the same season.

With his gameplay this year, Kim has made a name in the golf world. Less to say, all eyes have been on him, and it has led him to be in close relations with Woods as the player recently joined hands with TGL.

Tom Kim’s addition to Tiger Woods’ TGL

For Kim, this season’s victory came after a year of challenges and self-reflection. Following a hot run last summer with wins in the Wyndham Championship and Las Vegas, Kim felt the pressure to live up to the expectations placed upon him. However, his determination and grit prevailed, leading to his win at the Shriners Children’s Open.

As Kim navigated the glory of the world of golf, as expected, the community did take note of this young prodigy’s ascent. Soon after the Ryder Cup week, four new names were reported, including the likes of Tyrrell Hatton, Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood, and Tom Kim, to join Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TGL.

The announcement was made a few days after Team Europe’s Ryder Cup victory. Even though there was no direct announcement made by TGL itself, fans and media spotted the additional four names along with their videos on the TGL website.

The addition of these four names put the TGL roster to a total of 16 players. Two more spots are expected to be filled before the start of the tech-infused event.
