Golf tournaments always have a fixed prize purse distributed among the golfers based on their finishes. Although LIV Golf has a fixed prize pool for every event, unlike the PGA Tour. But golfers know how much they will earn after competing in the tournament on both tours. But what about the Olympics? Is there any official prize money for golfers who earn gold, silver, or bronze?
Surprisingly, the simple answer is no. But it doesn’t mean if the golfer ends up winning a medal for their country, there won’t be any financial award for them. However, it varies for every country. Recently, @Daniel_Rapaport shared a post on X, captioning “If an American wins this week’s Olympic Golf Tournament, he will earn $37,500 as a bonus from the USOC,” highlighting the cash prize for the golfers representing Team USA.
Meanwhile, a silver medal winner will be rewarded $22,500, and a bronze medal winner will earn $15,000 in the US. Considering that if Xander Schauffele, who is leading with a total of 11-under-par after the second round at the Le Golf National, wins a gold medal again, he will take a $37,500 cash prize home, and it remains the same for Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, and Collin Morikawa if they manage to do so.

Golfers won’t receive cash prizes from the Olympic Golf event itself; instead, their respective countries provide these rewards. The cash prizes are the same for female golfers, like Nelly Korda and others, representing the USA in women’s golf at the Paris Olympics if they win gold, silver, or bronze. Do all American athletes get paid the same money if they win at the Olympics?
How much of a prize difference is there between golf and individual sports?
It’s not the country but the individual sports governing body that pays athletes for their medals in some sports. Starting with track and field athletes who win gold, the sport’s governing body will reward $50,000 for World Athletics. Surprisingly, the prize money is double in the case of boxing, and boxer gold medalists will receive $100,000. For a silver medal, the prize amount is $50,000, half the gold medalist’s prize in track and field. For a bronze medal, the recipient receives $25,000.
