Bonjour Blunder! Oh wait, sorry, Bonjour Paris! The 2024 Paris Olympics have been the talk of the town for a while now, for the medals, the costumes, etc. However, recently, the golf competition at the Olympics drew heaps of crowds for all the wrong reasons. And you will never guess what it was! Well, we’ll give you a hint; it’s about the scoreboards!

Recently, Fried Egg Golf made a post on X talking about the bizarre thing happening at Le Golf National. The post had a picture of the scorecard of France’s golfer, Victor Perez. Now you’d say, What’s so bizarre about that? Well, something was. It was reported that “Not only are blue squares for pars at the Olympics, but bogeys are red and birdies are green. Chaos”. And it is indeed chaos.

While TV crews use yellow for an eagle, red for a birdie, no color for par, and light blue for a bogey, the people at the Olympics decided to do something new altogether. This is not the first time this has happened. Earlier in the last major of the 2024 season, fans encountered the same problem. On the Open Championship’s leaderboard, instead of the usual colors, par scores were represented by blue and bogeys by black. Not to exaggerate, but a few people called The Open’s fiasco “unhinged.” And for golf fans, it is nothing short of a nightmare. Imagine being at your favorite sport and not being able to read the score. Exactly, a nightmare!

This is not the only thing that has been criticized by the fans of Olympic golf. Fans do not like to be disappointed when it comes to their favorite sports, and it shows in the X post’s comment section. One fan hilariously said, “My brain hurts.”And man is that relatable. Many fans were complaining about this big blunder that kept them from enjoying the game to the fullest.

This fan was extremely frustrated with the new scoreboard design and did not hold back one bit; they said, “Something so simple has now turned into a complete catastrophe.”  Can’t argue with that, as it is indeed very simple to read a scorecard: yellow is for an eagle, red is for a birdie, no color is for par, and light blue is for a bogey. And that’s it. This entire year has been a nightmare for golf regarding the viewership. Even the PGA Tour has witnessed falling numbers, and issues like this further deteriorate the watching experience of golf fans.

Fans speculated that the person behind the leaderboard design did not know one thing about golf. One user commented, “Logic from non-golfers designing the graphics. Green good. Red bad. Blue neutral. 🤷‍♀️”. Generally, green stands for good, and red for something negative, the fan noted that this has been kept in mind during the broadcast. Another fan added fuel to the fire, and said, “Green = good Red = bad Are people dumb or very dumb?” taking a jab at this flaw.

Golf only returned to the Olympics after a century-old break in 2016, so it’s still comparatively a new addition. The backlash continued, with one fan commenting, And we’re also going to put color on the hole numbers. Totally unreadable”. In golf, it’s important to clearly show the scores. Players and fans need to easily see the hole numbers to keep track. But the Olympics’ design team made a mistake. They added colors to the hole numbers, making it harder for people to quickly see which hole is which. The fans disliked the new design.

However, they’re still excited to see who will win the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Do you have any guesses? Let us know in the comment section below!
