Be it the US Open blunder or the drama with the PGA Tour policy board Rory McIlroy manages to grab the attention of the golf world in a way. This time, he did so in Paris. In his quest for golf, McIlroy finished his first round with a total of 68 5-under par finishing at T12. Seems good, right? Then what caused the drama?

Everything was good until then. Recently @NUCLRGOLF shared a video on X featuring McIlroy who was taking a shot in the second round at the Le Golf National and possibly it didn’t go the way the Irishman wanted it to. Expressing frustration after making the shot he yelled “F—K OFF!!!”.

Although Rory McIlroy hasn’t done anything like that in the past the behavior he showed at the Le Golf National is affecting his status as one of the most famous golfers. Even after missing the last putt at the Pinehurst this year, the golfer did not curse, and with a sad face, left the greens. To top it all off, when Bryson DeChambeau won, he did not even curse then, and silently left from there. After the second round, the Northern Irishman finished at T13 and had carded a round of 69.

This fan commented, “Cancel Rory, my kids are watching! They are going to look up to a real role model like John Daly!!” Pointing out that the display McIlroy presented isn’t appropriate for kids to watch, and they shouldn’t look up to athletes like him. This fan also pointed out that they would rather allow their kids to watch athletes like John Daly. Daly is known in the golf world as a bad boy for his living life with a king-size persona. He is a big fan of smoking, and drinking, and is often seen doing so on the greens, but his dropping an F-bomb has not been something that has come to light.

Some fans defended LIV Golf, suggesting, “If he was on LIV, everyone would say how disrespectful he is.” Possibly highlighting the fact that John Rahm expressed similar frustration with an “F–k” at events like the Ryder Cup, LIV Golf Mayakoba, the Masters, and LIV Golf Nashville which led him to face the community’s wrath.

One fan pointed out that, expressing similar sentiments, another added, “Thought we only swear on the LIV tour??” The golfers are not really allowed to curse on the PGA Tour, but the Saudi-funded league has no such rules. The English golfer Tyrrell Hatton often cursed on the greens when he was on the PGA Tour, and hence was fined as well. But on LIV, this has not been the case.

In the past, Rory McIlroy hasn’t shown his frustration in this way. The pressure to represent his country and his growing patriotism might explain his disappointment after the shot, which didn’t go as the golfer wanted it to. Witnessing this first-time yet unusual display from the Irishman led one fan to comment, “Criminal!” Expressing similar thoughts, another commented, “Meanwhile Rory McIlroy is using bad language towards himself.”
