Aren’t we all star-struck by the Paris Games? The golf world is also in a festive mood before the gut-wrenching race begins on August 1st. But as much as fans are thrilled to support their national team, they are also open with their criticism. Among other things, the fans are most dejected about their clothing choices.
Right, the US Team’s clothing contract with J. Lindeberg has brought about a huge backlash from the fandom. But what went so wrong for such a reaction instantly? Olympic Golf’s official X handle shared a photo of the US Team players, Wyndham Clark, Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, and Xander Schauffele. While two of the golfers were seen wearing a blue and white jersey-short combination, the other two were seen wearing a blue-red and white-red combination. This was a clear show of respect shown to the host country, France. However, the fans were not happy.
The logo that was visible on all four was from J. Lindeberg. They captioned the post, “Representing the Red, White, and Blue. 🇺🇸 NUCLR Golf re-shared some more photos from the session. This time, all the players and their caddies were pictured together. With no exceptions made for the caddies, the fans could see the same clothing trend copied for them too. NUCLR GOLF added, “🔴⚪️🔵 SAA — The boys are ready to rock in Paris. @USAGolf”

When the fans witnessed such clothing on their favorite idols, they instantly rejected the clothing ideas. On top of that, they were highly critical of the Swedish brand itself.
The golf community disses US team clothing choices
One of the fans wrote, “The US Olympic Team being decked out with J. Lindberg gear vs. Nike, Under Armour, Ralph Lauren, etc. feels like a miss.” The fan named several American brands that are known for making impressive apparel in golf history. They tried to project how, in comparison, this design by J. Lindberg seems only a skit and does not quite equal the high spirits that fans feel towards an Olympic game. According to them, if it were not for the brand, it might not have been a miss.

“We do know that J. Lindeberg is a Swedish company, correct? 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ @TeamUSA @USAGolf,” said another fan. Their main concern is how J Lindberg is a Swedish company. The Olympics has always been about national pride and representing one’s nation on an international platform, hence, despite having several reputed American apparel brands, the US Team’s clothing given to a Swedish company is quite odd.
Another enraged fan ruthlessly declared, “Fire whoever chose the uniform. Horrendous.” Apart from such a bold statement, the fan went ahead to make yet another comment quite in agreement with others about the American brands. They went so far as to say that if anyone disagrees with the American brand choices, they might not be quite patriotic or an American national at all. They said, “Clearly, Ralph Lauren Polo should be sponsoring the team. Anybody who disagrees is not a real American.”
Someone else pointed out, “One of these is not like the others.” It was Wyndham Clark’s caddie, John Ellis. While all the players and their caddies were seen in solid-color shorts ranging from the red-white-blue combination, Ellis stood out. While he wore the same red jersey as Collin Morikawa’s caddie, Jonathan Jakovac, his blue shorts had a darker shade of blue-patterned stripes all over. This difference in shorts instantly stood out to the fans.

Yet another fan asked, “How the heck did JL get the clothing contract??” Extremely shocked by the outcome, it was hard for the fan to trace how JL was the designer of choice for the US team. In reply to his shocked reaction, another fan added a sarcastic answer. They replied, “I heard it was via best of 5 in a Rock-Paper-Scissors playoff.” By concluding that such an important decision was made almost in a childish manner, they made the US Team’s committee decision look quite ridiculous.
