Xander Schauffele has been having his best year! His recent dominance of the golf world with wins at the PGA Championship and the Open Championship solidified his reign as one of the top golfers. But amidst all the glory, it seems Schauffele’s inner circle has changed. Did the 2020 Tokyo Olympics golf champion part ways with his father, Stefan Schauffele, as his swing coach? Well, yes!

In March this year, the 30-year-old disclosed that he had collaborated with a new swing coach, Chris Como. The swing coach has worked with many of the game’s best players, including Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau. He turned out to be a game changer, as since his inception, Xander Schauffele has been on a roll.

Despite collaborating with Como to enhance his game, Schauffele has undoubtedly experienced unforgettable achievements while working with his father. After securing the Wanamaker Trophy, he expressed his trust, saying, “Now that I’m working with Chris, [my dad] feels like he can kind of take his hands off the wheel… He trusts him a lot; I trust him a lot.” Moreover, Stefan also approved the change, noting, “Chris changed a teeny thing, and he found answers that Xander and I together couldn’t come up with.”

In Paris too before teeing off for the ultimate patriotic showdown, the reigning PGA Championship winner spoke very fondly of Chris Como, and said, “Chris is someone I’ve known for quite some time. It was a pretty easy transition. He’s a really good communicator, and my dad has kind of known him for a bit, too. So once we linked up and had conversation, it was a pretty smooth go, and luckily the changes were implemented quickly and obviously have beared some good fruit.”

Xander Schauffele stepped up to the microphone at the press conference ahead of the tee-off in Paris. When asked whether he delayed his decision to switch swing coaches away from his father, Stefan Schauffele, had anything to do with the Olympics, the 2x major winner spoke very lovingly of his father.

“No, I mean, my dad, starting off, just like every kid, your parents, you have your foundation, and you have the people that helped you get to this point,” said Scahuffele showcasing the role his father has played in his life all these years. He added, “My dad was no different… One was being a dad; another one was being a coach; one was being a concierge; one was transportation. The list goes on: mental coach, swing coach.”

Schauffele’s words painted a picture of a father who wore multiple hats, dedicating himself to his son’s success. He acknowledged his dad’s tireless efforts and revealed a desire to relieve him of those responsibilities. This will allow him to finally enjoy the fruits of his labor and savor life beyond the golf course.

Schauffele further highlighted consideration for his father’s well-being, noting his impending milestone birthday. “He’s going to turn 60 this year. I don’t think he wants to sit on the range at 95 degrees and watch me pound golf balls all day. I wouldn’t want to do that when I’m 60.”
