Mothers are the shadow we look for when we are struck with the dark phases of our life. Lexi Thompson feels the same way about her mother, Judy Thompson. 2017 was a challenging year for the golfer when she came to LPGA Tour’s second major with a heavy heart. Her mother was undergoing uterine cancer treatment. And the thoughts of her mother’s suffering were visible on Thompson’s face.

During the 2017 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, the pro completed the first round by carding a one-under 70. She was battling her tears after she made a long putt on the second hole. Thankfully, her caddie was supporting her throughout when she was dealing with news on the golf course. After her round, she talked about her mother, and her words will melt your heart.
Lexi Thompson loves her mother too much
In the interview, Thompson said that his mother is the most important person to her. Judy has been a role model for her daughter. She has always motivated her daughter to become better. Holding her greatness in heart, Thompson will consider herself lucky if she becomes even half of what her mother is as a woman.
“She’s always been a role model of mine. I always aspire to be the woman — half the woman that she is,” said the LPGA golfer. She then added what her mother always used to tell the golfer. Quoting her mother, she said, “No matter what, I love you, just go out, do your best, that’s all you can do.” Every week, that was her message to her precious daughter.
The LPGA star described her suffering, stating that it had been difficult. Her mother has been her closest friend. Thompson was in pain with a heavy heart, but her mother was doing better than before. The pro was hoping her mother to be there to support her at the U.S. Women’s Open.
What did Judy say to her kids?
In 2017, the Thompson family’s yearly vacation to Virginia was near. But after fighting breast cancer for ten years, Judy sensed trouble. Judy went to Kingsmill with Lexi while her doctor from South Florida was absent. They later diagnosed her with Uterine cancer. One of Judy’s breast cancer treatments, tamoxifen, carried an increased risk of uterine cancer.

Judy needed surgery as soon as possible. It was hard, but thankfully there was help. The LPGA tour veteran Morgan Pressel lost her mother to breast cancer. However, she had connections to shorten the wait time. Surgery was on June 6, 2017; unsurprisingly, Lexi wanted to be by her mother’s side. But Judy disagreed. “What I want you to do is go follow your dreams.” After a pause, she added, “That’s all I want for my children.”
