Not many golfers are revered in the same breath as the forgotten star, Anthony Kim. While he made a splashing entry on the golf stage, his departure from the scene was unusually hushed. But in the years that have gone by, bygone stories and out-of-the-blue sightings have recalled memories of the former golf prodigy. To add to that, Kim’s former coach, Adam Schriber, recently revealed a heartwarming story regarding his erstwhile student, which forms the perfect Thanksgiving story.

Schriber took us back to 2008, when Kim was still relishing his time on the golf course. However, the incident took place at a pizza joint in Palm Desert, California. Kim and Schriber were served by a pregnant waitress, which prompted the former to convey his well-wishes.

However, the greeting turned sour as the waitress revealed that the father of her unborn child had left her, admitting she was scared to have the baby on her own. “My goodness, I didn’t see that coming,” Schriber recalled Kim telling him.

A few months later, the pair visited the restaurant again, where the same waitress was there to greet them. She hugged Kim on the golfer’s arrival and even showed a photo of her baby. When Schriber asked what was going on, a gracious Kim revealed that he had left her a tip last time out.

And it wasn’t a regular tip. “I can’t remember, it was either a $10,000 or $20,000 tip,” Schriber said. “To see him give back and do things for other people… that’s what it’s all about.”

Where did Anthony Kim disappear?

At the turn of the millennial, Kim was a prodigious talent, waiting in the wings to take on the world. He had secured victories in three PGA Tour events before turning 25 and was part of the victorious 2008 Ryder Cup team.

However, injuries hampered his career. Recurring Achilles worries sidelined him from numerous tournaments, but he plied his trade occasionally. However, that changed after his last appearance in 2012.

While many are still in the dark about Kim’s decision, it was allegedly due to his insurance contract. According to various reports, the former golfer has a policy that would pay him $10-20 million if impeded by a career-threatening injury.
