Matt Wallace, the PGA Tour golfer, recently spoke about his decision not to join LIV Golf, despite being approached in its early stages. Golf Monthly tweeted an article of Wallace’s interview with The Telegraph, where Wallace expressed that it’s the “highs and lows of golf” that drive him, not the monetary value.

While Wallace’s friend, Talor Gooch, earned around $10 million from LIV Golf, Wallace sees it as simply “a cheque and a trophy.” For him, world ranking points and FedEx Cup points are what truly matter, as they ultimately contribute to financial success. Wallace admitted that he initially didn’t understand the concept of LIV Golf and even quoted an “obscene” price when asked to name his desired salary.

Wallace Said, “I saw my mate Talor Gooch has earned £19 million on LIV now or something, great for him. But there was an article online saying that his decision must be justified and I look at it and go what’s justified about it? That he’s won £19 million? He got no world ranking points, no FedEx Cup points, nothing from it apart from a cheque and a trophy and he’s beaten a few players on there. Awesome.

“He’s probably playing the best golf in the world but that is kind of all he’s got from it.” He added

Wallace expressed his deep connection to the Ryder Cup and the significance it holds for him. However, he acknowledges the need to balance his aspirations with not letting it consume him, as his previous attempts to qualify have not been successful. He believes some players who joined LIV Golf may have prematurely ended their careers, opting for an easier path without experiencing the ups and downs of traditional tournament play.

Matt Said during the interview, “On that Tour, you can’t miss a cut and experience those lows. You’re just taking the easy road, which I don’t have any qualms about with some of the players. If I was in their position at that stage of my career, maybe I’d have done the same. But some of the other players that have gone, well it feels like their careers have kind of ended a little short. They could’ve done a lot more things.”

Beyond his thoughts on LIV Golf and the Ryder Cup, Wallace’s passion for the game shines through. He has been playing golf since the age of seven and continues to compete at a high level with a handicap of around 2-4. His love for the sport and the thrill of the game drives him forward. With a deep admiration for Rory McIlroy, Wallace remains focused on his own journey in golf and hopes to make a mark in future competitions.
