Earlier this week, the golf world was notified about Rory McIlroy’s resignation from the PGA Tour’s Policy Board and Player Advisory Council (PAC). The PGA Tour revealed in a statement that McIlroy was leaving the position of Player Director citing “personal and professional commitment.”
McIlroy, having been part of the committee for two years and a loyal of the PGA Tour even when LIV Golf was launched, shocked many with this decision. However, his childhood pal and fellow Irish golfer came ahead in support of his resignation.

The resignation of Rory McIlroy from the PAC has raised multiple questions. The PGA Tour clarified that the resignation was because of professional and personal issues of the golfer.
Coming in support of McIlroy’s decision, Irish golfer Shane Lowry and former professional golfer Paul McGinley expressed why it was the best choice. Lowry told Golf Digest, “I think Rory is right to do what he has done. Not that everything has gone his way the last couple of years, but I spent a lot of time with him and saw what he was having to do.”
Lowry also shared the reality of being a member. McIlroy had to spare time off for board meetings and talking to different players. He praised his friend for the work he had done in his tenure. However, Lowry thinks it is not worth the time of a player. He said, “I went on the PAC this year and it’s just not worth it.”
Shane had often asked McIlroy, “Rory, why bother?”, because “he’s got every material thing he is ever going to need. All he wants is to win more Majors. So that’s all he should focus on.” McIlroy is playing the best game, and as Lowry said, shifting his focus to something else doesn’t benefit him.

Another McIlroy supporter is McGinley. The ex-golfer expressed his views to Golf Digest. McGinley called out the coming complexities the PGA Tour will go through as the merger with LIV Golf and DP World Tour comes close. He said, “Resigning has to be a good thing for Rory. We’re in the middle of a complex situation that will necessitate a huge amount of input in the coming months. A lot of energy, too.”

The former Ryder Cup captain also remarked that “it makes sense for him (McIlroy) to let someone else take the lead.” Amidst all the speculations by the public, why do you think McIlroy resigned from his Player Director post?
