Tiger Woods’ former caddie, Steve Williams, has been in the news for a long time. Ever since he released his controversial book ‘Out of the Rough’ with unheard stories about the golf legend, people have been behind him with questions. And there was a time when the caddie was in an interview and was asked about another man he worked with. And it was none other than LIV Golf CEO, Greg Norman. But Williams definitely didn’t have a great review about working with him!

Steve Williams spoke bluntly about Greg Norman

Before caddying for the 15x major winner in 1999, Steve Williams had worked with one of the golfer’s biggest rivals. If you’re thinking of Greg Norman, you’re not wrong. Back in the day, Williams started his career as a caddie without many expectations. However, working with Norman was the first time he got his big break in the field. At least that’s what he said in an interview with Graham Bensinger.

“I have a lot to thank for Greg,” he said. “He was the first main job ahead…first very high-profile player…he taught me the ropes.” Well, it all sounds good until now. As per Williams, Norman helped him learn a lot about golf in its entirety. And not just him, but most of Norman’s caddies have had the same experience as the New Zealander.

Norman’s teachings were not just limited to golf, but also how to be in life. When asked what the golfer taught him, Williams said, “…how to do things, how to say things, when not to say things and when to say things.” Moving forward in the conversation, the ex-caddie revealed how Norman always wanted things to be his way or no way at all!

“You had to do things his way,” Williams added. “He would make it great clear when it was time for you to talk and time for you not to talk.” But even after having a controlling personality, Norman is still in the good books of his former man-on-the-bag. Williams highly credits Norman for helping him become a better caddie. “He was hugely responsible for forming me,” Williams claimed.

The caddie also said that Norman was a “tough guy to care for” and that he was “not the easiest guy to carry for”. But it was something that the golfer always went by. His attitude towards the game and the people involved in it played an essential role in his journey. And given that he has achieved so much in life, Norman’s tough ways have definitely worked out for him.
