Lilia Vu is on cloud 9 as she should be after the 25-year-old bagged two major championships in 2023, in a span of just five months! In April she won the Chevron Championship, and two weeks ago she won the AIG Women’s Open on 13th August.

The victory brought her the paycheck of a whooping $1.35 million and a giant surge in the Rolex rankings where she bested Nelly Korda. And the California-born golfer has recently revealed what served as the motivation for the second major win of the year.

The AIG Women’s Open turned out to be tougher than Pebble Beach. While the intense earlier rounds chewed out world-ranking golfers like Lexi Thompson, Lydia Ko, and others, Vu continued to make a strong grip throughout all rounds.

In the last round, she shot a five-under 67 which contained six birdies. She made victory by six shots from England’s Charley Hull. This week she is participating in the CP Women’s Open, and at the event’s press conference she revealed what the unconventional motive was behind her terrific performance at Walton Heath.

She said that her father bribed her with the promise of a cat if she won the event. She said, “He was basically saying if I won another major we can get a cat, so I’ve been browsing for that.”

Thanks to her magnificent win, Vu has climbed the ladder of world ranking, and has become the world’s no. 1 golfer. At the conference, she was also asked if she thinks she deserves the spot due to her hard work. Vu replied, “I don’t know if I’ll ever feel like I deserve that, but I know I’ve put in a lot of work.”

Vu said that she plays better when she is enjoying the game, “I found that my game works best when I’m having fun and just doing my thing and not thinking too much about it.”

She continued, “Just playing one shot at a time and knowing that I can win” So far Vu has six professional wins in her career. She will definitely try to add more wins to her resume.
