During a golf event, it’s quite common for players to end up missing a shot or two. How one reacts, however, depends on the situation. This week, while the Arnold Palmer Invitational took place, fans witnessed Matt Jones throw a putter into the water after a missed shot.

Naturally, the extreme reaction drew in a lot of comments from fans. While some people joked about the video, some fans remained unhappy with the impulsive throw. After all, such reactions may not always have a positive impact.

Golf fans react to Matt Jones hurling his putter into the water

Jones’ reaction came after he missed a seven-footer at the par-four 11th for a birdie. While the Bay Hill golf course can be unforgiving, missing a putt like that can be understandably frustrating. On top of that, Jones had a shot at a birdie he ended up throwing away.

As a result, many fans believed that such a reaction was slightly unwarranted.

Some fans expected penalties on such actions, even if they were not aimed at someone particularly. Even though it might not hit anyone, users pointed out that it certainly sends across a bad message.

However, on another end, fans believed things like this will continue to happen. Jones’ reaction was out of frustration, and only shows viewers how tedious the game can get. Furthermore, he threw it towards a relatively safe location in the water.

Of course, some fans chose to respond with memes and gifs. Jones’ reaction was swift, and stunned fans who were actually watching the event. Some could not believe he actually did throw his putter and checked on social media to confirm.

While there were multiple opinions on the throw, one cannot deny Jones’ visible frustration. “I’m done, I’ve had enough with it,” Jones apparently said. Though he did not directly speak about the event, Golf Channel microphones heard Jones talk.

At the end of the day, what really matters is the final performance and result. After all, Jones no longer wanted to play with the putter that cost him his birdie. With the Arnold Palmer Invitational being one of the most highly anticipated events of the season, a little tension on the course is expected.
