From receiving backlash because of his slow pace at the Masters to getting spewed over his hatless appearance at the 2023 Ryder Cup to LIV Golf defection rumors following him throughout the 2022-23 season, Patrick Cantlay has undoubtedly seen it all last year.
The eight-time PGA Tour winner had fallen prey to all that was rumored around, but Cantlay was never seen replying or retorting to the accusations hurled at him. Was it because he never had anything to say, or was he ‘perfectly fine‘ with the criticism?

Patrick Cantlay discloses the reason for his silence
Before the 26th edition of The Sentry kicks off the 2024 PGA Tour schedule at the Plantation Course in Maui, the 59 field players sat for a press conference. Patrick Cantlay, who had recently given an exclusive interview about his various 2023 rumors and shattered them all, was asked again about the accusations and the way he addressed them.
“I just don’t think that’s my style,” he said, continuing Cantlay explained that he would rather have his “clubs do the talking” and believed that there was no need to revert back as golf is a “gentleman’s game” and he wouldn’t wish to attack its integrity. Furthermore, he ascribed that everyone is trying to grow the PGA Tour and the game “as best as possible,” and his negative reaction to rumors would not have helped.
The 2021 FedExCup Champion went on to share his thoughts on the matter and spoke about how people are entitled to their perspectives and opinions and that it is “perfectly fine” because, according to the 31-year-old, that’s what makes “the world so exciting.”

But does it bother Cantlay? From Cantlay’s response, it looks like the rumors and accusations don’t really bother him at all. When he was asked to answer the question with a simple yes or no, the eight-time PGA Tour winner left it up to everyone else to decide for themselves as he iterated, “That’s for you to decide.” However, Cantlay did share his side of the story on the rumors before he tees it up at 2024 The Sentry.
