‘Not Me’: A Year After Enticing Golf World With Her Victory Celebration, LPGA Star Hannah Green Reveals a Change of Heart Following the $450,000 Win

With so much going on in the sport, golf fans have no lack of reasons to celebrate. And not only the fans, but even professional golfers are trying their best to match their admirers’ energies. Not to forget, LIV Golf Adelaide featured plenty of players becoming part of certain celebratory traditions only to get their fans to cheer. However, this Australian star is finding the idea of a certain tradition a little uneasy this year!

Green, 26, has made a huge mark in the sport at a pretty young age. The Australian professional golfer has been in the eyes of golf fans ever since her 2019 Women’s PGA Championship victory. And it was only a year after she earned her spot on the LPGA Tour. The golfer has been showcasing her spectacular skills in each tournament she has been part of. And her recent 25-foot birdie putt resulted in a highly-awaited $450,000 victory for Green, making her the winner of the JM Eagle LA Championship at Wilshire Country Club.

The LPGA Tour pro, who’s “really happy” with her triumph, is currently receiving love from fans all over the world, especially in Australia. However, despite being an Aussie herself, the golfer recently dismissed the idea of doing something most of her Australian fans must have wanted her to do! Of course, we are talking about the famous celebratory tradition, the “shoey”!

In her post-game presser, Green was asked if she had done a shoey to celebrate her win, which she denied. “I did not,” she said. “It wasn’t my suggestion. My caddie said that when we win next that he will do it, so I was kind of hoping that he could just do it and not me. But maybe that’ll be after. We’ll see.” Well, it is not the caddie that the fans want to see doing it! But the golfer certainly doesn’t seem okay with the idea of making it happen during the award ceremony.

Hannah Green’s strong denial of the Australian celebration was pretty disappointing considering the fact that she has actually done it before last year. After her 2022 Vic Open victory, the golfer cleaned her shoe and poured champagne into it before finally drinking it. And that made it even more surprising for her to have such a reaction to the tradition this year.
