Jack Nicklaus and Barbara Nicklaus are considered as the power couple of golf. The two lovebirds have been married for 62 years now. Moreover, ‘the Golden Bear’ gives the credit for his success to his beloved wife. Not many relationships stand the test of time but Jack and Barbara are the one of the rarest examples. Back in 2016, the power couple stepped into the culinary world by establishing the first ever Golden Bear Grill at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport at Terminal 3. But the restaurant was not a mere eating joint for people, a lot of thought went into the making of the grill. The Nicklaus family passed down their essence to launch the Golden Bear Grill. But what was really the reason behind its opening? Did Nicklaus want to step into a new business, or was there a bigger reason?
Golden Bear Grill: An opportunity to impact the lives and future of children
One of the major reasons behind the launch of the Golden Bear Grill was their mission to tie in charity as their social responsibility. Nicklaus has had various products with charity ties. According to an article on Nicklaus’s website, the list includes: Nicklaus golf balls; Jack Nicklaus wine by Terlato Wines; Aqua Hydrate water; Golden Bear lemonade by AriZona, and Jack Nicklaus Ice Cream.

Most of these products, generating charity for the children in need, were present at his culinary joint. The couple had given their customers the option to donate to his Nicklaus’ Children’s Hospital. Jack’s point of view towards the food joint was, “Golden Bear Grill gives us the opportunity to combine several of our licensed products into something that will last beyond our lifetime.” His motivation for starting this chain was to make a difference in the lives and futures of children.
Golden Bear Grill right from the kitchen of the Nicklaus family
Another unique thing about their chain is that it comes right from the Nicklaus family’s kitchen. Yes, the restaurant’s comfort food has been inspired by Barbara and her daughter Nan’s cookbook. The menu included Jack’s favorite greens salad and a chocolate peanut butter treat that has been a tradition in the Nicklaus family, bringing the customers more close to his family and culture.

Sure, Jack’s popularity brought in the customers, but the credit for their pleasant experience goes to Barbara. It was her wonderful recipes that made them last. The couple had given it a personal touch by hand-picking photos. The intent was to create more intimate connections with their customers. Apart from golf, it also celebrated the lifestyle that surrounds the sport.
